green with envy

Hi folks, new to the world of the little green icon. Previous blackberry user for about a million years and plunged in with a xoom tablet and now the samsung charge. whole house is going to the droid life so i have climbed aboard.
hardest part is learning a whole new way of life, i'm in my early 30's and feel like an old lady lost in the world of technology - the most exciting part of my new phone purchase yesterday was figuring out how to set the alarm! and that makes me feel sad. going to search out this forum like a mad woman and see what i can learn, i do not even understand what rooting is (isn't that what happens when you plant a tree!?)...just have to reprogram my brain before i get left behind.
thanks for reading, looking forward to the learning process ahead :)

Welcome to Android Forums!

Rooting is simply gaining administrative access to your file system so you can make changes to it. Don't feel pressured to root. There is no need to unless there is a specific feature or app you need that requires it. If you find eventually you do want to root, get advice from the users of the same phone as root is a little different in each phone.
