Hello all!
I'm yet another iPhone convert who is thus far thrilled with his decision to pick up the Eris. Before I switched, I was really expecting to spend my first few days grudgingly getting acquainted with the new OS and weeping for my iPhone--for all its faults, I really had grown to love the iPhone OS. But that hasn't been the case at all. I have so much more freedom now, so many more options... and sweet merciful Christ, I can actually make phone calls when I want to!
This is no knock on the iPhone. Apple is incredible at taking good ideas and executing them in a more polished, creative, and (usually) technically reliable way than others bother to. But they often do this at the cost of device flexibility. And while the iPhone remains the sexiest piece of personal electronics I've ever seen, I couldn't justify the variety of headaches for the price anymore.
So now I'm finding my way around Eris and its Android/Sense UI, and seeing that life outside of Apple-approved applications is pretty damn sweet. The options available to me, the ability to arrange my screen with the things I actually need, the ability to run things in the background, the ludicrously deep setting menu hierarchy, the physical call/end buttons, the trackball for delicate text maneuvering (rather than my clumsy fat finger on the screen), the removable battery, the lighter weight/narrower profile... I just love it.
At any rate, I could ramble on indefinitely, but I'll stop myself. Thank you all for the help you've already provided through my searches of the forum, and for the questions you'll no doubt answer in the future!
