Help Grouping SMS conversations

Hello,

I have a Android Bionic with Verizon service. For work, we have an automated process that forwards text messages to several of us IT weenies when errors occur. The messages are actually sent to a Google group that then sends the message to us using email, for example to: 3245494328@vtext.com

Even though the messages are always coming from the same group, CellPhoneGroup@MyCompany.com, they always have a unique identifier so the stock SMS client can't group them into conversations. The From: address for the message will look something like: cellphonegroup+bnccj-hgf_eeejwefj3434@MyCompany.com

Is there simple way to group these messages into a single conversation thread?

Hmmm, not that I am aware of, since that unique identifier is causing it to be relegated to a new sender every time, and Google contacts is still very much a PITA - for example, go into your contacts and try to find all contacts that have a yahoo email address....can't do it, it is only searching names.

This issue is actually sort of related to your problem: Issue 10239 - android - contact search by truncate keywords and/or wildcard and by parts of his phone number or email address - Android - An Open Handset Alliance Project - Google Project Hosting

If this issue were resolved, the next step would then allow us to use wildcards in the email address when assigning an email address to a contact, an from that point on you'd be set, b/c the SMS app would group based upon the contact, which would be the same since you'd use a * wildcard for the unique identifier part of the email address.

Until this is implemented, I'm not really sure if this can be done without an external app.

That being said, however, there is this app - GroupMe - Market Link that seems to have some potential. However, in your case, I'm guessing that the unique identifier is never repeated, and I'm not 100% sure that even this app can support wildcards.

Yeah, I know, and I hoping that someone can prove me wrong, but logically that is what I see as the culprit.
