Help Grrr, still getting redraw after rooting and putting in code, any suggestions?

I have been having that horrible refresh/redraw issue where it can take minutes to refresh the icons when going back to the home screens. There is a great code you can enter if you are rooted, which locks the home screens into memory so it never has to redraw them. And that worked GREAT.

But now it is back and I am not sure why, or even how.

My real question, I guess, is whether this problem ever exists on custom roms. I am willing to go that route if it will solve this one problem.

I can't take credit for this, but this is what I did and I no longer have redraw issues with Launcher Pro. And yes it does still happen on custom roms. Below is the fix, that is if you are rooted.

If you use ADW or LauncherPro and if after using your browser, email or any other apps for awhile, then if you press the 'HOME' button, if it takes forever to redraw your home screen, and you are sick of that HORRIBLE LAG, then try this: In a terminal,
type su and enter.
Then type echo ro.HOME_APP_ADJ=1 >> /data/local.prop and enter.
Then reboot.
Now evaluate whether or not this fixes your lag.

If you want to undo what this command does, simply remove that toggle from: /data/
local.prop

The above works like a charm. Ever since I did that, I had zero re-draws.

OP: Did you change ROMs and that's when it started to re-occur? If so, and you wiped data before changing over (which is typically recommended to get a clean install), you also wiped that file since it resides in the /data directory .... which would explain why your phone started having re-draw issues again. Just a thought...

No, i didn't install any roms, but that is good to know about the wipe. I entered the code again and checked the folder and the code was in there twice, which is fine I suppose. But then I rebooted and all has been well. Odd.

yeah you have to reboot after entering. When I changed roms once I entered, but forgot to reboot for a few days. I was going mad wondering why I was still getting the redraws. Once I re-read the instructions and saw the "reboot" I did and haven't been happier.

When I first entered the code, it started working even without the reboot, so I figured that was not really needed and forgot about it. Now, it has done the redraw only once and that was when stuff got jammed up and needed a force close for a couple of apps.

One telling sign that it is doing its job is that in the pecking order of "things to shut down", any music I am listening to will be shut off even before the home screens! The real problem is that they seriously under-RAM'ed this phone.
