Help GS2 wont update to JB

Newbie
Hi guys,

My phone wont update to JB. It is available here (UK - Three network) because my fiance has the same phone on the same network unrooted and never flashed with anything before and she got it this evening over OTA.

Here's what my phone says in kies and on the about phone:

PDA:LPT / PHONE:LQ6 / CSC:LPA (XEU) - this is stock from: AndroidFirmwares.net - Download Firmware

Kernel version: 3.0.15-I9100xwlpt-cl941023
dpi@DELL169 #3
SMP PREEMPT Fri Jul 27 18:08:15 KST 2012

I put the stock on because i was hoping it would then allow me to go to the frikin OTA and get JB. I got so pissed that my fiance got JB before me and it's all because i previously messed around with kernels / firmwares and shit - didnt really know what i was doing. I spent 48 hours scratching my head trying to get my phone back to how it was out of the box - and it turns out i failed when i tried that too. because it still wont get JB either via kies or the OTA.

Now:

http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1113928

Scroll down a bit to UK or search: XXLPQ: Download
Firmware info: PDA: XXLPQ| Phone: NELP2| CSC:H3GLP2

XXLP2 Stock Kernel: Download
Password: intratech@XDA

^^^^ IS THAT, what i need to flash to, so that i can get my frikin phone able to update to JB? if not.... what? Also do i have the right kernel or that does not matter? Please what the hell am i doing wrong. I put H3G firmware... no update, i put stock... no update... im lost!

I do not want to flash JB myself, i simply want my phone as it was out of the box from Three (H3G) UK and i want it to update itself whenever it can. I dont want a custom kernel or firmware, i want all three branded everything and everything and even more everything.

Please, point me in the right direction. If i have to change the kernel how do i do that? is it the same as a firmware flash? odin as well?

This is the latest firmware on Sammobile for your carrier

Hotfile.com: One click file hosting: I9100XWLPY_I9100H3GLP7_H3G.zip

It is not JB however if you flash that via ODIN it will put your phone to how you want it including the kernel

There is also no indication that JB has been released for three so if you can get the firmware version off your fiance phone that would allow us to check it out

it says this on about phone on my fiances galaxy s2 (that is now JB via OTA for Three H3G UK):

Android version: 4.1.2
Baseband version: I9100UHMS1
Kernel version: 3.0.31-914166
se.infra@SEP-122 #3
SMP PREEMPT Thu Jan 31 14:57:08 KST 2013
Build number: JZO54K.I9100UHMS8

edit:

i put my fiances phone into pc to get it showing on kies and:

PDA:MS8 / PHONE:MS1 / CSC:MS5 (TTT) - TTT? wtf!? never heard of it.

i flashed with odin to the firmware you posted and it still wont update via OTA to JB. but why? my fiances phone is three and the same as mine. how could it possibly not get the same OTA update?

it also says on kies that my firmware now is not supported to update via kies. the csc still says : LP7 (XEU). posted was the firmware for my carrier so why does it not say H3G?

Thats an unbranded firmware released in late February so not an official 3 branded release.

You can update your phone with file provided to see if you can get this yourself OTA but if your going to go to those lengths you may as well flash the JB update yourself, look here

I have no idea as i never use kies but as previously said if your going to flash something then it may as well be JB

You can still flash the official release when it eventually comes out

ok if i flashed that JB firmware, would my phone find the next whatever update via OTA by itself? Or will I have to again manually update that whenever its available? is that firmware also 100% hardcore official and not custom in any way whatsoever. no custom kernels, no custom rom - all pure samsung? also does that JB do the same with the other firmware you posted for my carrier does it update the kernel to what it needs to be also or will i end up with a JB phone on the wrong kernel?

The firmware i posted ius the same firmware that your girlfriend now has on her phone, it is an official stock Samsung firmware with an official stock Samsung kernel

It is showing as a release for Panama on Sammobile

It is however not a carrier release so when 3 do release an official branded 4.1.2 you can download that and flash it, that should allow you to update from kies/ota going forward (if there are ever any more updates)

ok but whenever three do release their version, do these firmwares all come with kernels so would i have the correct kernel for that three 4.1.2 if i flashed that firmware or will i end up with a three 4.1.2 firmware with an unbranded kernel?

im only asking this because i keep seeing this page on xda devs that shows firmwares and has a seperate download for kernels, so im slightly confused - what's the deal with kernels? does flashing firmwares include the kernel or not?

Yes , they will , they will either come as one packaged file in the form of a tar that will include the Kernel or as three separate files in the form of PDA, Phone and CSC but all will be correct for the release.

The primary way of rooting a phone is to flash a Kernel, these are the files you will see on both XDA and here alongside descriptions and guides of what each Kernel gives.

Putting it simply you can flash a stock firmware that will have a stock Kernel and then flash a custom Kernel to give you root access, each custom kernel is based on the official firmware version.

In your case you have no need to be concerned as the correct kernel will be flashed in the firmware package

any chance you know of a pure / simple root process for that specific firmware? all i want is root access i.e. supersu and that's it.

Hello

The easiest way would be to flash Philz kernel via stock recovery, this will root and not update the binary counter

http://www.mediafire.com/?c60e5smc5jd8wgu

Download the file , place it on your SD card, go to recopvery and install from there

Alternatively if you flash this file via ODIN as a PDA it will give you root access, it will also give you a lot more with tweaks etc but you dont have to touch them at all just flash it and leave everything as default

Flash this exactly as you would the firmware, this will update your binary counter and leave the warning triangle on the boot screen tho

*EDIT

finally you could try this method in option 2of this post

I have never tried this so cant really offer any further advice
