GS3 Case discussion thread

I went with the Otterbox Defender. I don't have the problem of it being too slippery like some others have had. The belt clip is a little clumsy but it goes well when I attach it to my purse. This case is not suitable if you have a 3rd party battery that requires a different backing.

I am a new Galaxy s3 owner and love my new Otterbox Defender...but...I have tried and tried and I can't remove it. Do you have problems removing yours if you need to? Do you have to pry it off? I've tried everything I can think of including watching videos and using the suggestions that Otterbox emailed me.

I was in need of a new case, so after looking through this thread, I decided on a new case. I went with the Urban Armor Gear case, I got the grey one.

So far, I really like the case. It was also nice to see that they included a screen protector! I really like the look and feel of the case. It looks tough and rugged, but is still slim and not bulky.

Figures... after looking at a million different options I finally land on the Seidio Active. Decided I would try an extended battery to go along with it, but unfortunately it looks like the extended active case only comes in black... I wonder how hard it would be to paint it white? Further, I wonder how much I really want the extended battery compared to how much I wanted that white case. Might have to look at other cases that fit the seidio extended battery back cover that come in white... just when I thought the search was over...

I got the ZooGue Galaxy S3 case like a few other people have mentioned and I absolutely love it. Right now its free it just cost me like $3.99 shipping and handling.

I dont even use the other $20 case I had it just doesn't compare to the ZooGue case. I also got a stylus from ZooGue for free and its amazing. I dont know how they can afford to give these items free since they are obviously really good quality. Highly recommended.

I got some money for my birthday to get a new case for my S3. I have a cheap one I got from Amazon with a silicone liner and a hard shell, but have been wondering if I need something more. I know there is a 427 page thread on cases in general, but that's a lot to go through so I thought I'd post what I wanted and see what folks reccomended.

  • First and foremost, I'm concerned about drop protection, but I think the case I have now probably does okay there.
  • While I don't need anyting I can take scuba diving, I would like a case to protect it from liquids if I'm out in the rain or something gets spilled near it.
  • I'd perfer not have anything too bulky. I typically carry it in my pocket rather than on my belt, but I guess I could always go to a holster if the trade off was worth it.
I was looking at the Seidio Obex, which looks like a great case but I'm wondering if it might be too bulky...has anyone used this one? How about other suggestions?

i have the otterbox commuter its not as bulky as some but i still find it bulky in my jean pocket but its fine if you normally keep in a jacket pocket

I got one of the super cheap silicon cases with the "game boy" look for novelty, but I really want a serious case for use most of the time. I'm partial to bumpers, but I can't seem to find one I like. I like the look of the aluminum bumpers, but I really want a silicon/TPU bumper that is just a solid color. Preferably a light blue. I've also been looking for something under 20$, but I feel like that's not going to happen.

Does TPU feel more like plastic or rubber? I was also looking at Amazon.com: Androidified A2 CruzerLite TPU Case for AT&T,International models, Sprint, T-Mobile, US Cellular, Verizon Wireless Samsung Galaxy S III - Translucent Blue: Cell Phones & Accessories

Does anyone have one of these on a white GS3? Any opinions on color schemes?

Yeah, I've also seen the Seido Convert, but wasn't sure how much better it would be than what I have.

This is what I have now, BTW: Amazon.com: Acase Superleggera Pro Dual Layer Protection Case for AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile and Verizon Samsung Galaxy S3 - Black/Black: Cell Phones & Accessories

I had the Otterbox Defender. It had a problem with the Rubber corners pulling off. Changed to the Seido, witch comes with a belt case.>> Amazon.com: Seidio BD4-HKR4SSGS3 CONVERT Combo for Samsung Galaxy S III SCH-I535/ SPH-L710/ SGH-I747 - 1 Pack - Retail Packaging - Black: Cell Phones & Accessories

Yea i am in love with the Urban Armor Gear. It feels like its a fairly high quality case, ive had my phone drop sadly twice....but you could tell that the case really absorbed the fall.

And it looks like something out of Halo haha....i might eventually order another UAG color to swap them around. Imho, best case i ever had for a phone.

Every phone I ve owned I have had a case mate tough case for it. They are awesome cases, thin yet tons of protection. Just got my black tough case mate for my s3

Best case available in my opinion. I had one for my Sensation X.E and despite my daughters best efforts the phone remained in one piece so as soon as I got the S3 I ordered the Case-Mate Tough.

I read through this thread and got a commuter, I am impressed so far. It has very good protection and doesn't add too much bulk.

Too take off the Defender case you have to remove the Rubber outer shell first. Bought mine to get a case on the phone. Don't really like them. Waiting for a case to come I bought from eBay.

Would prefer a nice thick rubber case.

First case I had was the Defender, and yes the protection was great...maybe too good. It does make the phone very thick and difficult to remove from jeans pocket. I recently bought the UAG case, and I like it more than the Defender now. It is not as thick and the back of the case surface is mostly plastic making it much easier to pocket. The UAG case leaves more of the screen along the sides open, so it's much easier to use the entire screen.

I've only had it for a couple weeks and yet to drop it, so I don't know how durable it will be yet. The other issue I had with the Defender was that the outer silicone shell started to come loose around the screen edges way too easily. With the UAG this cannot happen because it's all one piece. The edges around the screen are much stiffer too.

Looking to buy an extended battery. Deciding between the hyperion 4200 mAh and the gorilla gadgets 4500 mAh. Just wanted to know if this case would fit with the gorilla gadgets battery

Amazon.com: QCell Samsung Galaxy SIII Extended Battery TPU Case Black - Only Compatible with QCell Galaxy S3 Extended Battery: Cell Phones & Accessories

I know that it fits with the hyperion but i'm leaning towards the GG one especially since it's on a sale. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Go to the Ultimate Battery thread. Lots of info there. The GG battery has been tested as the highest mah. It comes with it's own back door. Can't say if the QCell case will fit, but the GG supposedly fits under the Seidio Extended door ($14.95 + shipping but only available through Seidio telesales, not online).

My GG extended hasn't arrived yet, but I'm looking forward to it when it does.

Rugged Samsung Galaxy S3 Cases | OtterBox.com

After dropping my phone 3 times and getting a couple marks on the screen on the last one, I picked up this case. Power/volume buttons are very stiff at first but find them loosing up. Protects the camera lens as well.

Doesn't add that much bulk and very happy with case although it's a bit of a paint getting off/on when I rotate my batteries.

Finally replaced my crazyondigital explorer case with a blue otterbox commuter now that they have gotten real reasonable in price($18 on Amazon). What a huge step up in quality of construction and usability, but the huge bumpers on the explorer may offer a bit more protection in a fall. The phone bounced when I dropped it.
