GS3 Review from The Verge

"Samsung has a history of failing to update phones on time"

What a load of crap, after all these years they still put that as a negative? idiots.

Good to see they are impressed by reception, call, audio quality. Though I'm not having much issues with mine, those have been weak points of Gnex for many.

Saw that, thought it was funny considering the S3 is running 4.0.4 and the One series is still on 4.0.3.

I have to say overall that was a quick and good review. They didn't favor any other device to much. The only reason he went for the One X was because of the display. Performance wise and feature wise when it comes to OS, Sammy wins it hands down to me. The design is a little boring but at the same time I like it. The design alone doesn't have anything to do with the phones functionality (unless the physical material messes with radios). The OS alone wins it for me. I can't wait to get this device unlocked. Pear white.

Engadget review is junk imho, but what would you expect from a bunch of iphone fans.

The last couple of sentences basically say they took the HOX over the S3 because Sense is more aligned with ICS than touchwizz, which is something androidcentral have said. Thing is, no-one ever says specifically what is better aligned in Sense. I've played with a HOX and to me Sense doesn't seem to be too different to my original desire.

If nothing else the S3 wins on a slight performance gain, better battery life and having the card slot.

Some of the comments on reviews are hilarious, all moaning about poor build quality and cheap feel when they haven't even seen the phone, let alone held it.

I noticed that too, which seems odd to me considering Samsung left more things ICS-like than what HTC did. The app drawer, task manager, widget selector, all more like ICS in Touchwiz Nature than in Sense 4.0

Yeah, thats how it seems to me too, that techradar review actually points out that some stuff in TW is straight from ICS.

And HTC crippled multi-tasking capability of ICS rather nicely in Sense 4.0 almost to the iOS level. That and fixed 1800mAh battery, no micro sd basically made One X dropped for me.

A lot of people hating on Touchwiz actually never touched it. Many of them don't realize how TW 4.0 on GSII is greatly improved over older one in OG Galaxy S. This new TW UX is even better.

Obviously because its not true, but you must disagree, so please explain it to us?
I must admit, I am interested to hear your side of the story... Are you saying that Samsung no longer takes too long to update, or are you saying that their delayed updates shouldn't be considered a negative?

The Engadget review is pretty awful, their technical understanding is awful and demonstrated all through the review.

The Verge review is well written, but also a bit lacking. I mean 'first day we took some photos and "poked" the phone' and the battery lasted this long, 'second day it lasted this long' is a fairly pathetic account of battery life. While I'm pleased they linked to me as a source for the Wolfson DAC in their audio section, that section was still pretty underdone .

when they talk about displAY..I GET SAD...YOU COULD tell the difference..loows so dark and....not good...is still the best phone..but wtf u know?

The slight performance gain isn't a big thing for me personally as any performance gains would be so small due to how similar the specs are. I agree with you on everything else though. The S3 is getting much better results for battery life plus the addition of the MicroSD card slot really puts it a step ahead. You can affectively increase the storage of the 16GB version 5 times for around

It's clearly true; they've just demonstrated their inability to release a timely update once again. Samsung told everybody that they would be able to download ics starting on March 19. Three network branded phones began to get the update a couple of days after that, but sim free customers didn't get it until April 17 - a month later.

Plus there's the fact that Google release the latest version of Android to manufacturers the day that it debuts on their newest nexus. The galaxy nexus was released in November, and Samsung didn't begin to release the ics update until March; four months later.

nevertheless the SG2 was one of the first devices to be upgraded to ICS was it not ?

Yeah, but the review he criticised criticised Samsung by saying "Samsung has a history of failing to update phones on time."

Samsung broke their own deadline on this occasion, therefore they only added to the history of failing to update phones on time.

His criticism of the review was unwarranted :p

What do you class as a delayed update? we have been getting updates at the same rate as other manufactures, sometimes faster, sometimes slower depending on the device.

There will always be a delay compared to the Nexus devices but that disadvantage would surely go so all non google devices and not just the Galaxy S range.

His criticism of the review was unwarranted :p

Compare like for like, two phones of the same generation. HTC Sensation and the Galaxy S II, which got ICS first? Galaxy S II.

Unwarranted? yeah right.

You're misinterpreting what the review said.

"Samsung has a history of failing to update phones on time."

What they're saying is that Samsung doesn't provide updates when it says it will (on time). Samsung promised ICS earlier than they actually provided it, so yet again they didn't provide it on time.

They provided it ahead of other manufacturers so kudos to them for that, but they still didn't provide it on time.

Then it's not really a con of the phone, is it? So the updates are not on time, but they are ahead of other manufacturers, so compared to other phones, it can be considered a pro, not a con. I believe this is the point.

Whether it's something that only affects that particular phone or not is kinda moot. If the manufacturer has a history of failing to update phones on time, it's something to consider isn't it.

I for one was really looking forward to the ICS update the day it was meant to come out, but it wasn't until a month later. By that time I had rooted and installed a custom ROM.. something I probably wouldn't have done if they'd kept to their word!

You should probably be thanking them then for getting you started on customs ROMs :)
