Help GS3 Update Help

So, my GS3 (Sprint) is a little behind the times. It hasn't even been able to update to 4.1.2 yet. It receives the OTA upgrade file-things but cannot seem to actually update. It's not rooted with the Baseband version L710VPBLJ7 and is running 4.1.1. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Welcome to android forums!

Do you get an error when it goes to install the update? Rather what exactly happens after the update is downloaded?

Thank you for moving the thread! I'm new here, so I will blame ignorance.

The battery isn't low, I checked that. The update downloads and the phone boots into recovery mode. Then it tries to install the upgrade there and I get an error message saying that I have encountered some sort of authentication error. Once my phone charges I could copy down the exact error messages and whatnot.

Yes, I think. I recently unrooted my phone so the recovery software may still be there. But the problem predates even the root.

That seems like it would work. I'm not totally sure how to actually go about flashing a rom. Most of my experience with these things has come from watching YouTube videos.

Ohh alright, once you download the stock recovery zip file, power your phone off, hold volume up + home + power until the Sammy screen comes up and the phone vibrates. From here you'll be in the custom recovery obviously. Select install zip, navigate to where you downloaded the recovery zip, select it and it should let you conform it.

Before doing that, once in recovery, make sure it's not "android system recovery". As long as it's clock work mod or team win recovery project that your flashing from your good.
