Root GSB working great with few issues

I flashed latest GSB rom last night and it is running smooth but for some reason the only way I can turn the screen off is to let it time out. The red button is NOT working to turn the screen off. Anybody????

What did you have flashed before that.

Not sure about that. I've flashed a lot of roms (and still do) without a problem like that. If you did a nand then flash back to black and blue and see if it works. Maybe Doogald or Scary can give an opinion on this.

It is a strange issue. I went through all the setting hoping to find something but nothing. May try re flashing it. Hope someone has an answer. No other real problems, the ROM seems great otherwise.

Flash back to your old rom and see if it works.

Everything was working great with Nonsensikal... I am gonna flash back to it and see what happens. Maybe reflash GSB..

Another Q... How do I tell for sure what ROM configuration I am flashing back to when they are listed only by a string of numbers? Is there a way to remove some of the obsolete backups to eliminate some confusion?

simply delete them. you can use your file manager of choice,or hook the phone to your pc and delete them from there. i personally move all my backups to special folders on my pc and keep a list of what they are in case i need to go back to any of em. i try and keep 10 or less on my phone.

it is also possible to rename them to something that makes sense,if you dont have so many its easier to keep a seperate list so it can be more descriptive

edit: the string of number corrsponds to a date yyyymmdd. wich may help you figure out which were wich. :)

Isn't there a setting in Spare Parts that controls the power button behavior? That's all I can think of.

I rename them right away (by adding a string that tells me the ROM I was using.) So, if I ran a Nand right now, after it was done I'd rename it to BDS-201103130230-GSB20 (to tell me it was GSB version 2.0).

You can rename them or delete them with any file manager - I use Astro. Just make sure that there are no spaces in the name, or any strange characters really. No /\|* - those would all be bad. Dashes and underscores are fine; periods are fine.

yes, there is. i just looked and you can choose:
-nothing ()
-go to home
-go to sleep
-home then sleep

nothing is on by default on my phone. maybe make sure you put the dot by sleep, then do a reboot for good measure :)

Sure appreciate all the good info... I have flashed several ROMs but still very much new and have a lot to learn. I just re-flashed GSB and it seems to be working OK now. I thought the button was working at first but I am still for sure. Since I been doing this flashing ROMS I have only been able to connect to the computer one time. Since then I get an error code 0X80010108 and the HTC sync program just says not connected. Then sometimes I get the error code. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrr would be a lot easier if I could sync with my PC. Been downloading directly to my Eris. Only takes about 15 minutes so it is not bad.

you do not want to sync with the htc program.

if youre using a stock type rom you want to pick "disk drive" from the list(NOT sync and NOT charge only)

when using a CM rom, when you plug the cable in,the lil thing will pop up in the notification bar. drag it down and touch "usb conected". it will take you to the screen where you see the green android with a button that says "enable usb storage" touch that. it will give you another message about some features not being available, touch "ok"

at this point your computer will view your phone as flash drive... usb storage. you can open a windows explorer window to view its contents by right clicking on the "start" bubble in the bottom left of your screen. you can delete roms and backups,or move any files to to your computer,or move files to your phone by any means you are comfortable(i like to simply drag files from one place to another)

if you are familiar with flash drives and manipulating data to them, and are unable to get your phone into this scenario by picking the options i described above, you may want to temporarily uninstall htc sync and see if its somehow preventing it.

there really is no voodoo magic or complexity involved in transfering files via usb,i promise! :)

I use Astro.

I have File Manager. It looks just like Astro (but without the A on the folder) and is similar when I open it up. I didn't download it and don't remember where it came from. It had to come with one of the Rom's I flashed and it's just always been there so that's what I've used.

Edit: Went in TB, long pressed on it, clicked view in market and it's called IO File Manager.

I believe that FM is part of CyanogenMod distribution, like ROM Manager, ADW, etc. You should have had it installed with any of the pure CM Froyo ROMs, or with the GB ones as well. I've used Astro a lot longer than I've used CM, so I'm used to it.

Thanks to all of your posts I mostly have it running pretty good. Still some lag at times and just now a phone call cut out. I could be heard but I couldn't hear the caller? All said and done, I think Nonsensikal was a bit faster. Also when I return to the home screen it's often blank and has to redraw, anyone had any of these issues with GSB?

No problems to speak of. What version are you on.

File Manager is even more simplistic than Astro. I too received it after a ROM install and have used it since. Simple,easy.....

Scotty85... Want to thank you for explaining how to connect phone as a usb... I am pretty much a 70 yr old rookie at all this stuff but love learning new tricks. Thanks to you and several others I have GSB up and running. At this point it is working perfectly. Guess I will flash it on wife's Eris next. She hated the original phone dialer and all the lag. Right now she is on Nonsikal vanilla and liking it, think she will appeciate GSB v2.0 even more.

Flashed GSB v2.1 last night and noticed a couple sporadic issues. 1-Several times when I open screen all icons are missing. Have to reboot and screen redraws. 2- News and weather app reloads every time I open it. 3- GPS/Google maps is off by about 50 feet showing my address. It was spot on while back. It would even point the room I was in, now my address points to the house next door?

Loving GSB ROM... Just flashed GSB 2.8. Waiting for the phone to reboot. Each version gets just a little smoother. Keep up the good work.

Anyone using ad free? Just wondering if there is any downside to it. Been using it for a month or so and it seems to work great near as I can tell. Any opinions on this?

aargh. i just did 2.7 Saturday! (up from 2.3)
dumb question, laugh at me if i've been taking the hard route, but do i have to re-setup all my crap every time i reflash GSB? Is there a way to flash over the old without loosing all my stuff and starting over?
