Root [GSM] Can't Detect Sim Card

pzling

Lurker
Hi

I recently installed Touchpal Dialer to replace the Android Stock Dialer (Phone). I then used Titanium Backup to uninstall the stock dialer. (I only select Phone and pressed 'Uninstall'). However in the process of uninstall, something crashed (some process stopped working) and I was stuck on Force Close (which repeatedly pops up).

So to return to Android I rebooted. However the phone can no longer detect the the SIM card (and hence the network). I tried to access Settings>Call, but I get the error "The application Settings (process com.android.settings) has stopped unexpectedly".

My first thought was to restore Phone using Titanium Backup, but this seemed to be stuck (or at least it was taking excessively long >20min).

Then I reinstalled the rom but that doesn't affect the files required to detect the sim card.

How do I fix this and get my phone to be able to dial again?

Any and all help is much appreciated.

How do I fix this

Go into recovery and wipe everything. Data (factory reset), cache, dalvik, and system. Then flash the ROM again. If you're S-ON and Unlocked, I recommend using fastboot to do this.

Cheers thanks, much appreciated.

I'm indeed on S-On and Unlocked and have been using Fastboot. Thinking back on what I did, I think I was actually still running off the stock ROM. Given that my phone is unbranded, is it appropriate to use any stock ROM? (I've seen a few stock ROMs but all for the Sprint Evo 3D).

So rather than using a stock ROM, I tried to use a custom ROM. The last one was "ViperROM Redline v2.5 RC2" and I tried to install it via CWM 4.0.1.4 Shooteru.img. However that ROM flash failed due to some internal error (of the ROM).

I suspect it's related to my phone being on HBOOT 1.49.0018 and as a result alot of the Recoveries in circulation don't work (I can't get it to boot up in Recovery Mode). In fact CWM 4.0.1.4 Shooteru is only one that has worked so far.

So what else can I do?

If you're on HBOOT 1.49 and you use a SIM card, you can't use the CDMA ROMs. It's a good thing the recovery rejected that ROM, as it would have 'soft bricked' your phone.

You can find ROMs for GSM phones here:

EVO 3D GSM Android Development - xda-developers

This ROM is popular, so it might be worth a shot:

[ROM]LeeDrOiD 3D V5.3.0[KERNEL] V4.2.1 16th February |Tweaks|Fast|Stable|Full Beats - xda-developers

And this one looks good

You sir, are amazing! Thank you, that has fixed it.

If you didn't know where the rom came from, how do you know if it's GSM or CDMA?

My first clue was that you said your phone couldn't detect your SIM card. CDMA phones don't have SIM cards (well, LTE phones do, but those SIM cards are for LTE only).

The second clue was that you said 'Cheers'. Americans only say this when we're clinking beer glasses together. Americans are also the only ones with the CDMA version of the Evo 3D. Just something I picked up while moving threads from the Android Lounge to the various Galaxy S2 forums, seeing how there's like 7 variants of Galaxy S2 (it's a Guide thing...)

The third clue was the HBOOT version :)

Looks like I've dug myself into another hole again.

The 'Sim Card detection' problem was fixed with a wipe from CWM 4.0.1.4 and flashed with ShaWn3D v1.4 rom. Everything works and I was happy.

But I was keen to try out the LeeDroid rom but the WiFi error keeps recurring despite my attempts with the solutions provided at
http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1248838.

I've tried:
- re-flashing LeeDroid with so many versions of bcm4329.ko I've lost count
- reflashing the kernel with the LeeDroid kernel addet
- re-flashing another rom altogether (King Cobra v1.9) to see if it makes a difference; it doesn't - WiFi persists.

So now I've decided to go back to the ShaWn3D rom but now although the flash is successful, the boot is stuck at the white HTC splash screen.

What have I done wrong?

Your wifi problem is due to improperly flashing the kernel/ROM. Use FlashGUI and you'll be fixed right up.

You can download it here: [APP] Flash Image GUI - Flash Kernels and Recoveries from normal Android mode! - xda-developers

Just don't get any of the linked kernels. Those are CDMA kernels and they won't work for you. Just the FlashGUI app. Or you can do it the manual way that I describe in my tutorial:

http://androidforums.com/evo-3d-all...tboot-flashing-rom-kernel-updated-2-13-a.html

Again, just don't use the example ROM, it's a CDMA ROM and won't work for you.

ViperROM is a CDMA ROM, not a GSM ROM. You can find a listing of GSM ROMs here:
