Help GT-I5500 Froyo Android 2.2 Update Problem

RDGnome

Lurker
I updated my Galaxy Europa via Kies today and it said the update was complete and the Android worker man disappeared, and when I restarted my phone it took forever to load up only to find that it still said firmware "2.1-update1". On Kies it says:
Current Firmware version: PDA:JK3/PHONE:KA1/CSC:JK1 (XEU)
Latest firmware version: PDA:JK3/PHONE:KA1/CSC:JK1 (XEU)

Any solution to this problem? I'm pretty sure I have the Samsung Modem installed as it installed it when I plugged my phone in.

Thanks

There is no 2.2 available for XEU product code yet. JK3 is still 2.1.
2.2 is JPx and it is already available for these product codes : GT-I5500YKACNX (ROMANIA), GT-I5500YKAITV (ITALY), GT-I5500YKANEE (SWEDEN), GT-I5500YKASIM (SLOVENIA), GT-I5500YKATIM (ITALY), GT-I5500YKATOP (SERBIA MONTENEGRO), GT-I5500YKAVIP (CROATIA).

Okay thanks. Then what update did I do and what does it do? Also, do you have any idea when the UK will get Froyo?
Thanks

My advice: don't wait for Samsung to release XEU. The truth is that if you flash a European Froyo rom (like the Italian JPL) , chance are good that it will work perfectly for you. I use the Romanian and Italian Froyo roms on my O2 Ireland-branded phone and they work perfectly.

Flash JPL, and keep an eye on the updates for your XEU region. When Froyo for XEU is released, you can download it (either from the tutorial in this forum, or using checkfus downloader yourself) and flash again with Odin to restore Kies update functionality. Similarly, if you have problems you can download and flash the Eclair XEU rom.

Okay great thanks.
Does that mean I have to root my phone? If so how?
Thanks

Don't worry, I've figured it all out. I have 2.2 up and running now :)
What are the benefits of keeped my phone rooted however and is there any chance the GT I5500 will ever be ablee to take flash?
Thanks

Congrats for flashing your device with Android 2.2 !
Please, note that some apps for this phone will not work with a non-rooted environment. Rooting has nothing to do with ability of your device to get flashed with KIES, neither with Odin. However to have your phone flashed with FroYo for XEU (when it's available), just flash it back with available XEU ROM first and then check back with KIES.
