Help GT540 - Problems since upgrading

DO NOT DO THIS!. This process will just make the battery life shorter and last A LOT less longer. This process used to work with old nickel batteries, but the GT540 uses a Lithium-Ion battery which is a completely different battery because the chemical inside is Lithium-Ion, and these batteries will wear away quicker if you use this process. I don't remember the full reason on why this happens, but if you Google 'Lithium-Ion batteries' I'm sure you'll understand the full reason why. :)

I'm doing this for months & my battery is normal & lasts longer...

It might last longer now, but all rechargeable batteries have to be disposed of sooner or later, and yours will have to be replaced a lot sooner if you use this method. Google it.

I don't think so, check post #16 here: http://androidforums.com/incredible-tips-tricks/69534-battery-charging-myths.html Using that method gives longer durability, so I might need to change my battery a little sooner but NOT a lot sooner... IMO, it's better to change your battery a little sooner than running out of battery everyday, when you are somewhere where you can't charge or you are not in a position to charge...

After researching this topic quite a bit, I've found that if you use that process, all it does, is makes the battery meter on the device more accurate, but it does shorten the overall life of the battery. It definitely doesn't make it last longer, I think you think this because, the battery meter wasn't calibrated properly, therefore showing that the battery had (e.g.) 20% battery when it actually had 35%. Doing that process helps to make the battery meter more accurate, therefore making it seem like the battery is lasting longer, but in actual fact, just shortens its life. I've done my research, have you?

"A lithium-ion battery provides 300-500 discharge/charge cycles. The battery prefers a partial rather than a full discharge. Frequent full discharges should be avoided when possible. Instead, charge the battery more often or use a larger battery. There is no concern of memory when applying unscheduled charges." (taken from How to prolong lithium-based batteries) The info about the accuracy of the battery meter was taken from multiple websites

I put my phone on charge every night before sleeping, no matter what the charge is, and I always get at least 24 hours out of it, depending on the usage.

[I've edited my previous post]

Nope, It actually lasts longer... For me, When I normally charge it lasts like 14hrs & when I bump charge it lastes like 2hrs more...

Your kinda contradicting yourself here, because in the first post, he's just confirming what I said before "With Lithium Ion, in fact, is actually very bad to do a full discharge and it will reduce the capacity of your battery. It's much better to charge your phone frequently than to do full charges and discharges - it will keep your battery in much better shape. Now, a full discharge once in a while won't totally kill your battery, but it will reduce the recharge cycle life of the battery."

Now with post #16 I've found this in another post on these forums:
"Against my better judgement and knowledge, I tried out the bump charge for a week. Huge waste of my time.

Just like you are seeing, you can bump charge all day and never get anywhere. That little green light will just refuse to stay.

The "problem" (that's not really a problem) is that the phone stops charging once it's full and reverts to battery power. It does not continue to trickle charge like pretty much all dumbphones do. This is the way the phone is designed, there is nothing you can do about it.

Here's what I do. Charge the phone overnight while I am sleeping. Wake up, pull it off the charger. Within 10-15 minutes the battery indicator will catch up and will drop anywhere from 3-6%. I put it back on the charger until green again.

Bam, done. No need to turn off the phone and charge some more, then reboot the phone and charge some more, rinse and repeat. It's a waste.

FYI... unless I am really pressing my luck and pushing the phone, I can get about 36 hours with the 1500 battery."

I can't judge really, because I haven't tried this, but I can say that the full discharge/charge thing is bulls*** because I have tried it on my old phone, and I had to end up buying another battery. I'll try this bump charge thing for a week like the person in the above post did, and if your right, then I'll apologize :)

I'm not contradicting... I'm saying what I experienced & also what I saw elsewhere... I'm saying about Bump Charge, not charge-discharge... Ya, I wasn't aware of that discharging Li-Ion completely damages it while I posted, and yap I was wrong...

But, It's ok to bump charge, IMO... While you charge normally, it doesn't charge to the highest point... Bump charge method charges the battery more... I've bump charged 28hrs+ ago (Was turned off for 6hrs+) & it's now at 30%...

If you search further, you will see a huge debate is going on just like what's going on here... It's ok :)

Ah, okay, I'll give it a try for a week or so :)

EDIT: ADW Launcher also rotates...

in my home selector it just showes launcher ..ill try download launcher pro and let u know thanks..

edit installed launcher pro works perfect thanks Nirob

Nirob, I have a problem with that bump charge.. I've got CyanogenMod on my phone (link) and when I switch the phone off and plug it in, it just switches the phone back on, so I can't really say if it works haha :P
