Help GTab apps for non rooted, market fix?

DaveTec

Newbie
Hi, been a member of the forums for a while, supporting my EVO for the last year. I recently got a Gtab 10.1 for my daughter who is 11. I just got it working right for her with the wireless and the various quirks, but not having messed with it much, I couldn't get an app store (other than handang0) to come up.

All it takes is for me to NOT FIND SOMETHING immediately to get her precious tablet snatched out of my hands.

I really don't want to root the thing if I don't have to. Anyone got any quick tips?

TIA,
Dave

Hey Dave

The above solution that Solid posted is a great way to enhance the stock UI but to be honest the stock rom isn't that stable even if you apply the enhancement file.

Couple of things...

1. If this tablet is for your 11 yr old daughter...then do you really think that the Stock UI has any use for your daughter? I mean, that UI has things that she probably doesn't care about. :p You can't customize it to with pretty wallpapers haha.

2. If you are able to follow the directions that's included in that thread link...then guess what! You can install a custom ROM. I know you said that you rather not root but rooting isn't even relevant when installing a custom rom when it comes to the gtablet. Custom roms are already pre-rooted. Also, going through the process will teach you how to install Clockwork Mod recovery that is a great tool for the gtablet.

This post is entirely my opinion.

BTW, have you seen Solid's how to install a custom ROM instructions?....it's frickin awesome! That's not an opinion...that's a fact. :p

For example, Dave, the VEGAn 5.1.1 ROM is a vanilla Android experience. None of the "fluff" that TnT Lite has. And the Market works - no more handango! She can download Angry Birds or pretty much any other game on the Market and it'll look gorgeous on a 10.1" screen. Even the Quadrant test looks cool.

ROMming the gTablet is so simple now. Just install ClockworkMod Recovery first, THEN backup the stock operating system, and then ROM it. If you guys decide you want to go back to stock for any reason, just go back into Recovery, wipe data, and restore the backup... it'll be like nothing ever happened! :)
