Root [Guide] How to install Google 4.2 Keyboard

I have used this on the Samsung Galaxy S3 and the LG Motion both from MetroPCS. It works. I used the following steps to do it, but this is at your own risk (not that there is much of that).

First, download this zip file.

Android-4.2-Latest-Version-signed.zip from Dev-Host - Android-4.2-Latest-Version-signed.zip - The Ultimate Free File Hosting / File Sharing Service

If you have installed the 2nd init recovery found here http://androidforums.com/motion-4g-all-things-root/665972-985hpakick-2nd-init-recovery.html or here http://androidforums.com/motion-4g-...em-backup-restore-lg-motion-4g-root-nand.html , simply flash it and skip to the section for enabling the keyboard.

Otherwise, you will need to use a file explorer like Root Explorer or ES File Explorer. Pick whichever one works best for you.

If you would like a backup of the 1 file replaced, simply go to the system directory and go to the lib folder.
Find libgoogle_recognizer_jni.so
You can create a folder here and call it keyboard-backup.
Move libgoogle_recognizer_jni.so into that folder.

Now, un-zip the file and you should see a system folder.
In that folder there are two folders, one app folder and a lib folder.
Copy both folders to your system folder on the Motion.
This should copy the following files...
/system/app/LatinImeDictionaryPack.apk
/system/app/LatinImeGoogle.apk
/system/lib/libgoogle_recognizer_jni.so
/system/lib/libjni_latinimegoogle.so

After that, reboot and you should receive a message stating that Android is upgrading your apps.

Enabling the keyboard

To select the new keyboard, go to the Settings Menu and choose "Language & input"
Tap default and choose "English (US) Android Keyboard"
You can choose any settings you want below by tapping the gear icon next to the same keyboard.

That's it.

If you want to remove the keyboard, remove it with something like Titanium Backup to uninstall the keyboard and move the libgoogle_recognizer_jni.so file from the keyboard-backup you made back into the lib folder.

Try the keyboard out. It works just like a regular keyboard if you want (with a dark theme).
Or you can the predictive text on, or the Swype-like feature, or another feature called Dynamic floating preview...

Have fun with it.

Glad I could help. I really like it too. This one is a bit different than the one in the 4.2 GAPPS flammable zip. I like it more.

The jellybean keyboard? There are a lot of keyboards in the market. I like this one because it is pure Google.
Which keyboard are you using?
I might want to check it out :)

Well, I tried it and I don't think it is compatible with my phone (I am testing this with an S3 running jellybean).
I get force closes even after a reboot, so it probably doesn't work right on JB, but works fine on ICS.

He says it is compiled from 4.1 incompatible features were removed. Since you can run both keyboards, can you see which features were removed? I already got the $2.99 refunded.

It says he added a split keyboard for thumb control, how does it work?

Also, let us know which is faster, the 4.2 Google, or his 4.1 port for Android 1.6+.

This keyboard might be something that people want, but it doesn't work for me.

I never mess around with the split keyboard setting before until just now, I didn't even know it had that options until you mention it..It has extra keys separated by spaces. So far I cant recall it ever crash or lag before. As a matter of fact when u install it..the anti lag feature is enable. has a bunch of other features that i never really mess around with..one of them u can make the keys bigger or smaller

From what I've seen, I think I'll stick with Swipe. Though, the 4.2 camera looks VERY interesting. I'll have to check it out :D

I was serious about getting the Camera apk
What device was this taken from?

EDIT:
Just as an update, the camera could not be installed on LG Motion 4G ICS Android 4.0.4. It will not work without reverse engineering.
