Root [Guide] How to root the Wildfire S with S-ON

OK- couldn't wait and I tried to root via SuperOneClick and it worked!!

I have not applied the updated OTA....
reminder: I am S-Off, rooted and was UNLOCKED (I don't even see LOCKED or UNLOCKED on HBOOT menu)

Q1) Should I update via OTA??
Q2) I was looking for a ROM that takes out virgin mobile bloatware - I thought simonsimon had one, but can't find... any other suggestions for vm cdma 510c?

don't flash any rom in cdma.coz it have very limited amount of Custom roms,if u will flash any gsm rom u could be in trouble...

so be carefull while flashing any CDMA device.

Hi, I have Marvel A510b branded Telstra. Phone's HBoot version is 0.9. When I download Telstra RUU from HTCDev in Step 2, although it gives me the correct version number but doesn't update and says Error 130 - Find the correct RUU update. I am pretty sure I am using the right RUU update for my Telstra. Can someone help?

u dont need any updates thats y...or u have to downgrade ur hboot firest. to update.....updating after downgrading or downgrading before updating both are same :)

so let it be as it is if u want to be in official rom.

I"ve flashed that(.img),and look is working but for one unknown reason the screen remains black. Also i,ve installed recovery from Rom Manager(install succesfully).I've tried to make a backup from Rom manager, the phone started in recovery(black recovery) and after few minutes i've rebooted the phone pulling out the battery. After i starded the phone in clockwork folder i've found the backup(named by me yyyy/mm/dd stock)but the size is about 27 MB(i wonder because has not enough time.BTW,does anybody solved this problem(black recovery) or even find the reason for cwm not appear on the screen, at least .

hey come 2 me i can help you there...
BLACK SCREEN RECOVERY Solved!! - xda-developers

Yes it is a problem that some phone have. Some people claim that installing a lower version of cwm and later on updating it works. However, I have read in XDA forums that clockwork is actually working, it's just that for some reason the screen does not work. So some people have used it blindly, by looking at youtube videos and using it as a guide.

ya caro you are right.....

i have posted a easy to use steps on how to install custom rom on blackscreen recovery..

but the statement you heard about flashing with old recoveries may help is not correct.

Hi, I am looking to root the wifeys Wildfire S (when she lets me :D) and I updated it to 2.3.5 and now the HBOOT is showing as 1.08.0000 which I see from reading a couple of threads on here can cause issues.

Is it still an issue or will unlocking the bootloader via HTC dev work no problems?

ok so im lost an need some help. i have a virgin mobile htc wildfire s pg76200 running 2.3.4..... now on the htc dev site i see the wildfire s * an in there i see virgin mobile but the number for it is wrong it says pg76100 with the last two 00 cut off. now i tryed to do ALL OTHERE MODELS an i get as far as sdk, what android sdk do i take 2.3.3. 3.0 3.1 what? i need help lol

Im having a really tough time with this.
SuperTool says Ive successfully rooted my phone, but I am having trouble with step 5A4. When I go to type the code in it says fastboot is not recognized.
So I looked here and there for an answer, and when I thought Id found one this is what happened.
It was a barcode, so I downloaded a barcode scanner and rom manager. It scanned, downloaded the file and opened rom manager where a message popped up and said my phone needed to be rooted to use the app.
Then I realized that I probably wasted my time with all the fancy barcode stuff if I hadnt even rooted it correctly. At this point I did the SuperTool thing once more. And again, nothing was working for me.
Ive no clue what to do now...

I dont know exactly what you did but I assume you have rooted your phone with SuperTool. Now root wont work unless a superuser app is installed. Usually SuperTool install Superuser Su, but I prefer this app. Download and install Super SU, then run it at least once.

If you not sure you are rooted, check with Root Checker App.

Now about fastboot, make sure you run the adb.exe, fastboot.exe (double click on it) file before using DOS for "fastboot" command.

Also make sure you running the DOS from lets say C:\Android ( this folder should contain fastboot.exe, adb.exe and AdbWinApi.dll files).

If it still doesn't work, look at the tutorial on how to setup/integrate android-sdk commands into windows system. (but I assume you already should have since you unlocked the phone with HTCDev).

Still you can check it out ADB Guide.

Its better to install CWM using fastboot (I did and it works great). So, ignore other apps.

HBOOT version of 1.08 is not an issue since my HBoot version is 1.08.
I unlocked my bootloader and done rooting with that and havent faced any problems whatsoever.

Since you are a Virgin mobile, I am assuming you have a CDMA phone. Hence this guide isnt for your phone. Check out the Root section , there's a guide especially for you. You should use Goldcard method and should gain S-OFF.

But if you have a GSM phone with virgin, try use the Hboot version of PG76200(use your phone model no and select an hboot you feel close to your phone like country or brand) and definitely not PG76100 cos then you might brick your phone.

Same issue here, can not enter cwm (black screen), software - 2.26.69.1.
But there is one thing i noticed, i think that I can select options in CWM, but i just can't see it, because if i press power on the first option, which I believe is "reboot", phone reboots. When i press volume button and then power, nothing happens. Maybe a little guide how to blindly install root.zip?

This is the last thing that seemed to have worked was 5a4 …

When I move on to 5B. Backup your stock HTC ROM in CWM5 Recovery!! I am stuck! I have rebooted into bootloader, but when I hit recovery I do not get an option to backup/restore. I also found an su checker to see if it was installed, and it’s not.
Any ideas? Thanks!

Are you done rooting at 4B ? Or you skipped to 5B ?

When you click recovery does your phone boot back or you see a black screen ?

My metro PCS wildfire S won't boot into recovery. It just reboots. I have unlocked the bootloader and supertool doesn't work for me. Any solutions?

So I typed Fastboot flash recovery recovery-clockwork-5.0.2.8-marvelc.img” then hit enter. I didn't get any error messages but I still can't get into the bootloader recovery.

Just want to say thanks, rooted the wife's WFS on Saturday using this guide and the (re)-root guide. Flawless, no problems what so ever, great guide.
