Which of these steps (4a or b or c) you struck?

Have you installed CWM 5.0.2.8? (Choose the right one)
You can also proceed with HTC SuperToolv3 to root your device.....

Hi, new here. I went to HBOOT and I get the update fail, main version is older? Also when I go to download supertoolsv3 it says file not found in Goo.im, which is where the link takes me.

usually when that happens it means you don't need to update the RUU. WHen you go to HBOOT, do you get **LOCKED** or **UNLOCKED**?

I have now installed CyanogenMod-7.2, but i can't find a download for the google apps, eg. market/play store etc.
Could anyone sugest a couple of links for me to try?

Hi Matt,

After flashing CM7.2, you need to flash the gapps. You can download it from ROM manager...

Then you will certainly find the gapps in the XDA forums. Or maybe the user who posted his version of CM7.2 had also posted the gapps. Have look. Maybe you can also ask him to give it to you

Since you've flashed the 7.2 version, download the gapps for CM 7.

I've Unlock'd via HTC, CWM'd, Root.zip'd, SuperSU'd, Factory Reset'd, Cleared Cache's (incl Davlik's one) acccording to this thread, and all seems fine and happy.

If I install a Mod, ie.

i) cm-7-20120717-UNOFFICIAL-marvel.zip
ii) cm-7-20120616-UNOFFICIAL-marvel.zip
ii) Update-CM-7.2-RC1-marvel-03_24_2012.zip
.... these are the CM7.2 mods going back in versions.....

iv) cm-9.0.0-RC2-CRYPTOMILK-ALPHA7-marvel.zip
..... this is the new CM9 Marvel mod in alpha.....

Basically when I reboot after "Successfully Installed",

the Skateboarder appears, the Circle Arrow starts, it does 2.75 turns, freezes briefly, and then resets.
the Skateboarder appears, the Circle Arrow starts, it does 2.75 turns, freezes briefly, and then resets.
the Skateboarder appears, the Circle Arrow starts, it does 2.75 turns, freezes briefly, and then resets.

Hi,
After rooted, did you try any other Custom or Stock Mod ROM ?

and also for CM 7.2 and CM9....
1. Did you create extended partition and Linux swap on you SD Card?
2. Did you flash Gapps after flashing ROM instantly?

without these info, it might be hard to find a solution......

Nope, I just tried these four, and thought they should at least have booted to something usable...

I'll try your suggestions when I have some time, got a busy week ahead!

Luckily I can do a CWM Restore to the phones pre-modded state, so no loss in trying. http://www.androidforums.com/images/smilies/smile.gif

I have since lost some stuff hehe after trying to make space (wildfire s)

can I "re-root again to restore it to original root as per this guide?

what steps do I take? I want to redo everything, missing market on the phone and the google play wont work

There are 2 ways of doing it: 1 is easy, the other one is harder
1) If you have made a backup like the guide suggested it, go into cmw and restore your backup
2)If you didn't any backup, you will have to go through the hard way. This site is the best option for you

How long did you wait on the splashscreen? the first time you flash a rom it does take quite a while. Wait a good 5 mins before shutting it down. If it really doesn't work, then maybe for some reason your device is not being able to handle it.
 
Excellent guide KC!! Thoroughly enjoyed rooting my wfs after my warranty finally ran out.. was a cinch without having to go through step 3B :D
 
Im late to this party but im currently tryna root this phone for sumone main problem im thinking tha phone was purchased 11/11/11 and ive recently did a software update to 3.01.155.2 710RD Android version 2.3.4 ive only been able to bootloader unlock so cant seem to root it tho at all ive did every step correct hell i cant even get it to boot up "cwm"at all sumbody have any ideas on whats going on?

Are you sure your bootloader is unlocked? Does it says **UNLOCKED** when you go to the bootloader? And what error do you get when you go into recovery?
 
Hey there, first of all i'd like to thank CafeKampuchia for this thread, its very detailed and easy to follow. But i'm having an issue, i signed up to HTCdev, downloaded the right ruu, the Tmobile one, but i keep getting an error "ERROR [191] ROM IS NOT SUPPORTED" which basically states that my ROM version is not currently supported but there will be a supported update soon. I've been trying this for 4 days but i still can't get it to work, any help would be appreciated :/

EDIT: Also i once got the ruu from HTCdev working but it soon went back to the normal unrooted state.

What's your HBoot version?
(if 1.08.xxxx or above, not necessary
Try skipping the step proceed to Root further..
 
Ok my Hboot version is 1.09.0099, it's *Relocked* not locked or unlocked, and S is on, does this mean i can still skip the step? If so what step should i skip to? Thanks in advance.

re: ROMs looping at boot up :-

First of all I Partitioned my 16GB SDCard, adding a 2nd FAT32 partition of 1.5GB, and an EXT2 partition of 1.5GB.

I don't know if this helped, but now ROMs are installing and running fine! :)

Also I've downloaded a 'gapps' to try later, but it seems to need a 'Settings.apk' file, and that is a bit harder to track down, the only link I've found is broken.

Any advice for getting (or editing!) a 'Settings.apk' file ?

Unfortunately you relocked your phone which means that if you had rooted it, now it's unrooted. You don't need to update the RUU since you've done it before but you will have to unlock it again and root it.

Gapps are only used if you are flashing Cyanogen. Otherwise it's of no use. Cyanogen does not support any Google related apps. Therefore this Gapps is the add-on that allows you to instal Play store and all other apps.
