Root [Guide] How to root the Wildfire S with S-ON

Your post says the following:
The procedure for flashing a custom ROM is as follows:
1) Download the ROM and copy it to the root directory of your SD card.
2) Boot into recovery (you should be a pro at this by now) and backup your stock ROM.
3) Do a factory reset, wipe the cache partition and wipe dalvik cache (under Advanced).
4) Install the update from the SD card.

I just changed my SD card to an 8GB because I didn't have any space left and copied everything to the new SD. Now when I use Astro, I don't see any Root directory in my SD card. So should I just create one or am I missing something?

The root directory of your SD card is /sdcard/ not a folder called "root". It's equivalent to something like C:\ on a PC.

Thanks a lot for your help CafeKampuchia. I thought I was jinxed . Tried installing it on Saturday night. screwed up more than fix. Rom manager was always saying "an error occured" something about not having sufficient privelages. so did a factory reset before sleeping.
Tried it again on Sunday morning with the Supertool v3.
And it worked. !!!!!! WoooHooo !!!!! I can install ROM toolbax and I'm so happy.:D:D:D

First thing I did was backup my existing rom.

Thanks.

However , yes however , I have a problem I cannot get Google play store and am stuck with the very old version of the market. The original one that came with the phone. Can you please suggest something ?
I believe that when I flash a custom rom the problem should take care of itself, rite ???
Sorry for being such a noob.!!!

Just installed watsapp and saw it goin to the SD card for the first time. coooooool.

Congrats!

Actually I have no idea why Google Play Store acts that way. It updates right away on my Galaxy Tab after installing a new ROM but takes a few hours on my Wildfire S. But it does eventually update.

Hey!

Slightly off topic perhaps but I really want to root my phone and am also a complete noob to this... You said you don't recommend it as a first project. So what do you recommend? Thanks :)

I think a great first project is Forcing Apps to install to the SD Card without root. This will get you set up with Android SDK tools and ADB commands, and get you more familiar with the phone in general.

If you have a GSM phone (Marvel / A510e) a great second project is the second procedure of [GUIDE]How to update HTC Wildfire S/Marvel/A510e/GSM to Software Version 2.3.5 which I would do before rooting the phone anyway.

Hope that helps!

forget that...root your phone!! Lots more fun heheh :p

Only do something once you're sure you can do it. Otherwise you might get in trouble.

Hey

I having been looking for this thread and have finally found it.

I have two questions.

1.I am a A-level student , having no knowledge of Android SDK . So is there any tutorial for that or is there any easy way to get the identifier token?

2.I live in Pakistan(Asia) , and have this factory unlocked phone. When I go to htcdev.com , I cant figure which RUU carrier should I choose for my phone . Will HTC ASIA WWE work fine ?Please give a correct answer otherwise HTC wont take my bricked phone for repair.

The only way to get the identifier token is through the htcdev.com website and they require the use of SDK tools. This article at Cyanogenmod about SDK tools will tell you all you need to know.

The guide explains how to find a compatible RUU at step 3B.

Hope that helps!

I have unlocked the bootloader on Htc wildfire S using HTCDEV.com

But bro I am stuck now.

I have tried using the supertool v3. It says rooted but I dont have root access.

I used the other method , I copied the root.zip file in the SD card , and when I go into bootmenu and select recovery option . an Htc logo comes , then a phone shows up in the screen with red Triangle and exclaimation mark.

What do i do now?
Please find a way

My phone Htc Wildfire s510e

I dont understand. I have unlocked the boot loader , but I dont have an s-off.According to the guy who created this thread, we need unlocked bootloader to root it .

Finally I got it. Yesterday I spent the whole day trying to root my Wildfire S A510e. I was successful with everything explained in the guide but Step 4 didn't seem to work for mine. So I read the comments and the answers and I found the link to this guide [GUIDE] How to Root the Wildfire S. I've done Step 2, and it worked! I tried many other guides, found in xda-developers forum as well as in Google but none of them worked.

Supertool was the problem (or at least that's what I think)

Thank you man ;)

P.S. If you think that you have rooted but do not know surely whether it is, check this. Download a terminal console and type in 'su' (without commas). If $ changes to #, it's rooted. I attach the terminal's image.

Yes you will have to unlock the boot loader. Once that is done, you will be able to root your phone. They are 2 different things.
The s will remain s-on even after rooting it unless you use XTC clip so don't worry about it. The best way to know if it's rooted is to download Superuser or an app that checks if your phone is rooted or not.

Congrats Spum on rooting your phone!! Now the fun part beggins :)

Like spum23 wrote that supertool was the problem , so he used the other rooting method and followed step 2.

I do the same , but here is the problem.

1.I press volume down and press power button.
2.Then go to recovery and press power
3.Htc logo comes
4.Then a phone with green arrows
5.The phone gets stuck at a phone with red triangle.

Is your phone Wildfire S A510e or is it different?

One thing odd , I noticed that my Hboot has 5 options

1.Fastboot
2.Recovery
3.Factory Reset
4.Sim Lock
5.Image crc

When I go to recovery it gets stuck .

Anyways I will try your other method

Where is CafeKampuchia???

Please help me man.

Htc super tool aint rooting my phone , and the other method is not working as I am unable to access recovery using Hboot

god bless you !!!!!!!!!!its done
Sorry for being late--been really busy lately. Make sure you update your recovery so it works. Per my guide, I suggest you flash ClockworkMod recovery. You definitely don't want to mess around too much with a rooted phone that has a broken recovery!
