Root [Guide] How To Root Your ZMAX & List of ROMs

Yes we are very clear. I don't really understand it at all. I used the said zip. Installed through twrp.

Update....I was able to flash cm12 rc2. I run root checker ....not rooted. How can that be?

That is because the ROM is rooted but root access is disabled by default. You have to enable root access in developer options or flash the supersu zip in recovery. Myself, I prefer SuperSU over the superuser that is built into CyanogenMod. Can you try flashing SuperSU again and see if it works for you on cm12? I really don't understand why SuperSU wasn't working on the stock ROM.

Thank you for all your help. That fixed it I just went into developer options in cm12 and enabled it. I don't know why it wasn't working with the stock ROM either. But thank you and hraork for all your help

Please add to the instructions that if you get kingroot to work the first time you run it to skip to the step where you hit purify. I had it from the get-go with no tinkering but because I did not get the result in step 1 that was written as to be guaranteed, I now have a phone that wouldn't work after 20-30 attempts with antutu, etc. and now it wont even install Kingroot. Save someone the trouble :)

Thanks

Ok, in the spirit of being constructive I'll add some info. I suspected that my phone ran the kingroot without any tinkering due to the fact that it was completely virgin (I had never tried to root, etc.) Well, I had to do a factory reset due to some of my screwing around causing the lte data to not work sometimes. After doing so, I ran kingroot and it went to 100 percent with nothing running in the background, and then I installed TWRP (hope I got that right, I'm in kind of a hurry). So, it would seem, that it's highly likely that a factory reset would make everything happen smoothely.

Handset: Tmobile ZMAX with 4.4.2

I've found that it doesn't matter and is just luck of the draw. It doesn't really matter what your phone is or is not doing or how many times you have ran kingroot or how many apos are installed. Kingroot might work the first time or it might take over a dozen tries.

Yep, I have now come to the same conclusion. Anyone else have trouble with not being able to finish up getting recovery installed and all due to app crashloops?

Yeah sometimes it does that. You just have to reboot, clear data for kingroot and uninstall kinguser and kingmaster then try again.

Whats up, fellow zmax friends... I thought i was right on top of waiting for this to happen on this device, but somehow, i slept on it. Anyhow, I've been reading over and over the TUT to make sure i have everything in order before i attempt, like i do every time i root, and i just noticed at the bottom of the OP
" *king root apps can be uninstalled<br />* no r/w capabilities while on os only on recovery/unless masterchief87 modified twrp IMG is flashed ( credit goes to dev who made it ) "

So we CAN flash from twrp? Or what, how's this working, lol... Help me out.

Any and ALL assistance is greatly appreciated!

When you accomplish temp root and flash the recovery images with the apk and flash Su file , y'all have semi-permamt root ,what I mean with that, because the bootloader is Locked there's no write access to the system files or Any other app to write to exsdcard , with r/w files made by MC87 then you'll obtain write access , that just to clarify ...., to answer your question , yes twrp is fully functional , you can flash about any mod in the android community ,but let's say your trying to install adaway and the os makes you think it work but when you reboot the changes while be gone ,that's why that warning is there.

I also just made the error of not following the tut to the 't', I didn't delete the kinguser components until after I finished the rest of the process... No issues so far. I figured at first, I'd just restore back, but, one, I only backed up system+boot, I don't want to rebuild everything. PLUS the kinguser apps were still installed when I backed up, so at this point, just hoping it doesn't come down to a wipe of any sort, cuz that wouldn't work right now with the boot loader locked, I dunno.

By whole wipe do youean wiping both and system image ,... Nothing would happen like I said everything is fully functional , well your going to be stuck with kinguser supersu

I deleted it... Is that gonna be an issue? If I understand correctly, then it's just going to be there when I reboot, or do I need to install it before I reboot so that there's no trouble?

I'm not sure this is the right place for this, but there since the link for Carbon is on this thread and I can't find a better place to ask this, I thought I'd ask here. Plus, everyone has been so helpful so far.
Is the music player crash something that can be hacked or is there a fix for it? It looks like this is a problem in all the 5.1.x roms for the ZMAX.

.... Well I'm not sure about that but I use Google play music as an alternative ....

I tried that and it had the same problems. I wound up wiping and reinstalling the ROM. I'm using Rocket Player from the Play Store and so far it's fine.

I followed master odysues's wonderful guide and used hroark13's TWRP and Masterchief87's switcher and restore zips and my ZMAX (which was a slow block of nearly useless plastic) is now quickly becoming my favorite device ever. Thanks to everyone who helped by either working on the dev for these tools or by answering all my questions. You guys are tops!

After rooting the ZMAX and installing Carbon, have any of you on Metro (unlimited plan) noticed whether your hotspot slowed down after 6GB? I'm hoping this is a way around that limit. I hate to pay for data and then have limits on how I can use it.

I've used all the ROMs, and the slow down occurs on all of the using the default hotspot app, as far as a third party app that can bypass the slow down I do not know. Some of these smarter fellas prob can help with that. I can only confirm that it occurs.

Thanks! I'm going to try and find an app that'll handle it.
