Root [GUIDE] N00B Friendly OTA JB Install - Updated 7/14/13

I'm having some issues with the jb update. I have root and cwm recovery installed with a backup. I let the ota update download then copied it from cache to the root of sd card. After I do a factory reset and go back to cwm to install the ota zip i get this error, which is the same error i get when just trying to let the phone install the ota on its own. Any suggestions ? assert failed: apply_patch_check("/system/app/music2.apk" , "572978ae4533737836738474d928acb42c44644a", "358ae07a6725c36f45143c708e82a4a092c87089")
E:Error in /sdcard/ae144b236faf16ab989e963e47afcbedce8c0695.update_N861V1.0.0B09_to_N861V1.0.0B11_EFUSE.zip (STATUS 7) Installation aborted.
 
i try my self dont work just go back to stock do ota the legit way the u can get cwm back with junkie tool the flash root.zip from chevanol now u should be rooted and u good to go
 
You have to be fully stock ODEXED rom (which is what i linked to in the OP), you can have root and CWM tho.
 
yes better if u flash super ics partition zip go to zte tool connect your phone zte will say that u on b07 do the update when finish do b09 ota wait till finish then do b11 ota wait till that finish then use junkies toll to get cwm via fastboot no u have cwm now if u want root flash chevanol root .zip and u good to go remember alway back up your rom in cwm
 
Yes that is another way to do it. Ill update the guide with the other ways to do it when i update it for ways to get fastboot working also
 
The way i posted in the op is the way I did it the day the OTA was released and it worked flawlessly for me.
 
Im at work right now but i will try the methods tonight. thanks all who have suggested, wasnt expecting so many replies lol.
 
yeah been trying this update...so far the only thing that ive had to do is stop/restart my wifi connection. after flashing the rom my wifi stopped working which is why the update wouldnt happen.

as soon as i fixed the wifi the update hit...

well now root explorer is freezing up when i try to navigate to the cache dir and copy the update...how weird...any ideas?

Well I decided to try the steps in the OP once more and it worked. Now running JB, but I get notifications saying "qualcomm enhanced location service has stopped, wiper app has stopped". Also lost root so when I get the chance I'll try fastboot.

When you originally got the ota and installed cwm, you didn't happen to make a backup before you flashed root.zip, did you?
