Root [[guide]] !!rom flashing!!

Android Expert
Ok gentlemen and ladies I know rom flashing is usually a very easy process, and still is just needs a few extra steps with the motion!! Some of this may sound elementary and/or redundant but want I to make sure everything is included..

---ITEMS YOU'LL NEED---
*Your rom of choice
*Latest gapps
*Motion Multi tool
*Port of your choice for now(will explain)

-First and foremost if you're coming from stock you'll want to install the 2nd init recovery grant it root access by selecting the first button, and then press the 2nd button to reboot into 2nd init recovery mode.. .
-It is always recommended to have your battery at 100%, and I recommend keeping your phone plugged in to stay at full percentage during the entire process..
-So once in recovery mode wipe the cache partition scrolling down with the volume rockers and select wipe cache by pressing the power button. Next use the same method to select advanced and then select wipe dalvik then press the back key.
-Next step is to do a factory reset..
-Now assuming you already pasted your rom, gapps, and other items needed on the ext sd tap the home button to mount the ext sd where your zips are installed. Scroll to install from sd and press the power key.. Choose the rom and press power..this will install the rom..
-After completion of the rom installation install gapps.
-Next would be to install the multi-tool.. Depending in your rom you'll select most importantly the two recoveries (BOBS ROM NEEDS MMS AND GPS FIX) select the two latest recoveries it shows (2nd-init and cwm) tap next to install and finish..
-For now I highly recommend flashing a baseless rom over cm10 until all the kinks can be worked out.. I use the paranoid baseless for a couple of reasons..
1. It is the closest resemblance to base cm10 once set in phone mode.
2. It corrects the on going back light issue as well as a few other minor ones.
3. It's simple and isn't over run with a bunch of extra tweaks.

-Flash the port
-I always do this before I reboot.. Scroll back to advance and select fix permissions then reboot afterwards

!!! I'm not going to tell you what kernel or firmware you should choose because that is your preference !!!

-After reboot you might be in airplane mode.. If so either go into settings or select from the power menu to turn airplane mode off.
-Immediately start setting up your phone.
-Once you have your phone set up completely reboot into recovery via the power menu
**DO NOT INSTALL 2nd-init**
-Now wipe cache and dalvik again fix permissions and reboot.

If you already have done all this and are switching from a different rom or baseless you'll need to do this.. But here's a couple of apps that will be useful

-TITANIUM BACKUP
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.keramidas.TitaniumBackup

-SD MAID
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=eu.thedarken.sdm

**From 100% battery**
-Reboot into recovery
-Make backup
-Wipe dalvik and cache
-Factory reset
-Install rom or port
-Fix permissions
-Reboot

After rebooted if you're in airplane mode toggle it off then reboot into recovery again.. If not just reboot into recovery.

-Now you'll first want to scroll to mounts and storage and format internal sd. This is the only way to remove all data using 2nd-init
-Next select advanced restore from ext sd
-Select restore data
-Once restored fix permissions and reboot

After rebooted go into Sd maid and select corpse finder delete any dead files if any..
If using TB use the menu key to bring up menu and select clean up dalvik if any unneeded files remain delete them.

-Now you'll once again want to reboot into recovery
-Wipe dalvik and cache
-Fix permissions
-Reboot

You should be good to go now. I can't guarantee your phone won't get warm or that you'll have amazing battery life but these are the steps I take every time and I don't have any issues. Yes when using the phone excessively it will get a little warmer but not terrifyingly hot. If you ever have issues where it is getting hot first adjust screen brightness and keep GPS/WI-FI off unless needed or if it seems to be running sluggishly wipe dalvik and fix permissions.

Here's a couple of apps that will help with battery life and heavy usage.

-GREENIFY
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.oasisfeng.greenify

-OPTIMUS FOR ROOT
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=soapbox.sym3try.optimus

-CPU TUNER
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=ch.amana.android.cputuner

I do not guarantee the same results for everyone because a lot has to do with overclocking which I don't install or use and the individual using the phone and their "TWEAKS"..

I hope this helps and please be easy on the devs, some issues are not rom related but rather user and settings related.

Big thanks to Playful God for his ongoing hardwork and dedication.. Johnny for his porting genus and frenzy.. The Demon for his initial paranoid port.. And to me for writing this my fingers hurt... Also thanks to everyone that makes it possible to keep the forum on going..

Fix Permissions doesnt do anything, its something left over from b4 android allowed moving apps to the sdcard. Option isnt even in the new(er) CWMR. ;)

I guess maybe not in recovery but I do use rom managers feature or root cleaner to do it sometimes. Lol

Hello,
Thank you.
1. I see the mention of the ..... 2nd init recovery..... but searched this forum but could not find a link to the actual apk......

What I did find is a link to a zip file named... 2nd_init_mod_test.zip

Inside the file was
A. os.tools.scriptmanager-1 and
B. os.tools.smwidgets-1
C. system file with a 2nd_init_mod.tar

But NO ... 2nd init recovery.apk

I'm so new here I don't know if you are allowed to provide the actual link?

2. Secondly as a noob to an LG Motion I've unbricked a Cricket LG Regard and ended up with a MetroPCS LG Motion, because I could only find a Motion firmware.
I have root on the Motion and found a zip Cricket ROM but have no concept of installing a zipped Rom except for this tictorial.

3. Is there a Touch Screen recovery for this phone? Has to ask!

Thanks for this excellent forum, and the support. Really.
