Root [Guide]Root and unlock without the data wipe(4.2.x only)

*This has been patched in 4.3 and only works 4.2.2 and lower*

Upon helping a member with another issue, I came across a tool that allows one to root & unlock the Nexus 4 without data wiping. It is also a method that doesn't require a connection to a computer. How Cool! :smokingsomb:

Framaroot is a 1-click root method without the need of tethering the device to a computer. Simply download the apk, install, and run it to obtain root.

Once you're rooted, that allows you to use BootUnlocker for Nexus Devices to lock or unlock your bootloader without the need for the complete data wipe.

This will hopefully be of use for some people out there

Nice find! This should be stickied/ added to the all things root guide!

This is a very welcome app.

I had already rooted my Nexus 4 but my previous phone (an "ancient" Motorola Milestone) was rooted using an on-phone app that used a Bluetooth exploit and I did wonder how long it would take for someone to find the appropriate exploit to allow the Nexus 4 to be rooted in a similar simple (for the user!) way without the need to wipe the data.

Sorry I'm a little new to this but do I have to unlock the bootloader? And do I have to unlock the bootloader in order to us the pie controls without a custom rom?

v1.5.3 fails (Error #7) with either Aragorn or Gandolf exploit for installation of both "SuperSU" and "superuser" on Nexus 4 with Android 4.3

Why does the app need to "take pictures and video"? Uninstalled.

Yeah, I had a feeling that 4.3 would have patched this exploit, given how much trouble it has become to root in general.
