Root [GUIDE]Rooting the LG Volt LS740/LG F90

Hi folks, I tried rooting my VM LG Volt with towelroot, and it told me my device was unsupported. Is there another app I can use to root the Volt? This Mobile ID sh

I havnt tried it, but does anyone know if we can fastboot boot a v3 kernel on the new update? The reason I ask is possibly we could boot v4 with the v3 kernel temporarily and use towelroot to inject the su binary in v4. Seems to be close to how cf auto root does it and other devices did it in the past.

Also can anyone confirm if the kernel update is what is blocking towelroot?

edit 2: and can anyone make heads or tails of this: https://towelroot.com/modstrings.html using the modstrings feature in towelroot for obscure cases, would this help?

There wouldn't be a point in fastbooting into a different kernel if you're on v4, because of you were even on v4 you wouldn't have access to fastboot unless you were already rooted. Otherwise if you're looking for an already rooted v4 ROM there already is one in the forums.

good point, i didnt think of that. i read earlier that zv4 update restores the laf partition, and it must have just totally went over my head. lack of sleep will do that. makes sense that to access fastboot you have to wipe the laf partition, which requires root lol.

i had a nexus device for so long that i kinda got lazy and quit following root exploits and the such, is towelroot the only game in town anymore for one click root?

It doesn't restore the laf partition, flashing the radio does. But even then it should still retain root if you flash a su zip right after.

When I try to use this is says device not supported. Using boost mobile LG Volt...

Then you're on v4. You will have to roll back to v3 then root and use the v4 update posted here. All the info is in this forum.

Hmm, this sounds like stuff out of my league. I'm wondering if I should just return this phone and call it a loss. It's rather annoying that this version of the software can't be rooted without open heart surgery.

I'm sure towelroot will get updated to work again. The process to go back and reupdate is a little time consuming (about an hour), but not really that difficult.

Ya, I seen that after I read through all the comments. Forgot to edit my post afterwards. Just bebating if the hassle is worth it or not cant afford a new phone is anything goes wrong lol..

I mostly jailbroke to overclocked my older phones and remove some bloatware. This phone runs fine as is, but knowing it could be better has me debatibg.

Well, I factory reset status 2'd my phone about three times before we got processes ironed out. Was able to recover everytime, although I had to use a backup phone for a few days at one point. Now we have it pretty much down pat. You don't have much to worry about.

Anyone had problems with this phone yet??

Yes, I've had problems with the wireless.

I picked up my Volt at Radio Shack. After updating the LG software, the WiFi failed to turn on/scan for networks.
I was able to return the phone the next day and get an exchange, and the new one worked fine, until a week and a half ago, when once more, I updated the LG software via download, and after reboot, the WiFi would no longer turn on or scan for networks.

I had to get Virgin to send me a new one; fortunately, it was still only a month old, and they replaced it without charge.

Has anyone else had this issue?

wanna say thanks for this thread. worked like a charm! I wound up buying two from Radio Shack as well. It's strange that the one I opened for me was V3 and my wife's phone was V4. Lucky me, huh? :)

You should still be able to downgrade the one on v4 though.
