Root [GUIDE] Rooting Your Ascend II

You were absolutely right... Sorry about that...

Since you're at this stage, are you planning to upgrade back to 2.3.5 after you root it?

Sorry about that man :( i completely got carried away with my phone that neglected to come back and check the post. By the time I replied to your post i had installed the Cm7 ROM in my phone...i believe it was called duckmod cm7? i'm sorry if i'm getting it wrong it was a while ago that i did it.

This does not work. I tried, it said something about invalid signature i have cricket if that means anything

are you trying to root while on the lates OTA? if so that's probably the reason why. it that is the case, all you have to do is flash your phone via "Restore Your Ascend II Back To Stock" (you can find that in this same forum) and then root again :) you can update once you're rooted :)

I never thought of that, I'll try it and get back to you

don't know about the Cricket version but the US Cellular Ascend 2 can be rooted with SDK and Super One Click. just download both programs, open SDK and let it it run in the background, open Super One Click, plug your phone in and hit root... it's that easy.

i just put Playful God's cm7 port on mine this past weekend. had to download GoSMS Pro to be able to receive MMS messages, and the play store thinks my phone is a Cricket phone. but, data, voice, and text work perfectly.

it's kinda strange though, you have to do a complete wipe before installing cm7 so you loose everything. well, i backed up my contacts usin the my contacts backup app from US Cellular, when i tried to download the app from the market using my phone, it said that it wasn't available for my carrier (remember, the market thinks mine is a cricket A2) but when i sent it to my phone via website from my home PC, it downloaded and worked great...

Just checking something. If I follow the first post's instructions to root my Ascend II will it leave all my data on my phone and my SD card?

Also, what is the best way to backup the contacts, email, etc. on my phone and the best way to restore it if I need to?

Not sure what I am doing wrong in these forums but have been trying to get an answer for several days now
(Rootng without a pc) two question post. I think I must have forum cooties as i saw posts after mine get feedback. Hmmmm... guess i will keep checking back.

using this site i was able to root the first ascend with no problems but this ascend II makes my brain hurt. I really wanna remove some of this bloatware. I've tried rooting using the instructions at the beginning of this thread and it didn't work. E:failed to verify whole-file signature E:signature verification failed installation aborted. I have the cricket huawei ascend II android version 2.3.6. help please lonnietaylor02@gmail.com

Did anyone read my post containing instructions about rooting after the update? It's on page one of this thread, message #29...

OK I don't know where to start off but here goes .
this is my first time rooting a phone in anyway at all. I brought The Huawei Ascend II from cricket ( I was with Verizon for almost 5yr but I wanted to leave because the prices were getting to much ) long story short the guy from the cricket store sold me on this phone so i brought it. but ever seen it been a living hell with this phone, all these pre-loaded apps are driving me crazy and I want them ALL gone. I read your post on how to root the Huawei Ascend II and followed it to the tee but it keeps failing and it says something about E file or something like that. what can I do folks P.S. I tried that zroot thing and that failed too!!!

For those having trouble rooting with the stock "Muve" ROM (2.3.5 OR 2.3.6) installed, please read post 29 of this thread, or read the new thread I started, which is titled "How to root with Muve 2.3.5/2.3.6 - READ HERE". This process has been confirmed to work by several people. It should also work on the stock 2.3.3 (pre-Muve) ROM if you already have CWM installed (though CWM isn't necessary in 2.3.3 if you still have the stock recovery installed).

im so lost..idk wat im doing wrong but im following the instructions and not having any luck.... huawei ascend 2 2.3.6 cant even get cwm on my phone in im on the verge of the phone hurl... lbvs

Be ready for some lag (unless you install a ROM that supports overclocking, the CPU runs at a mere 600mhz).

BTW, after installing the Muve update, mine was running Android 2.3.5 (not 2.3.6 or, as some sites seem to think, 2.3.7).

I got the same verification error you did in the stock recovery, but I managed to get it installed with some fiddling around in CWM. Here is the process that worked for me (please confirm if it works for you so others will know it works):

Root your Ascend 2 running the Muve update:
  1. Download CWM fastboot zip for the Ascend 2 over at PlayfulDroidz.
  2. Make sure that the update.zip for rooting your phone is on the root (top level) of your sdcard.
  3. Boot your phone into fastboot mode (poweroff, then hold Volume Down + Power for 10 seconds). Your phone should remain at the white screen with the Huawei logo.
  4. Connect your phone to your computer
  5. Unpack the CWM zip and run the install script for your OS (Mac OS X, Linux, or Windows). If it hangs, you may need to run it as your administrative user. The Windows script should open a window then close it if it succeeds.
  6. When the installer finishes, remove the battery then unplug the cable from the phone.
  7. Reinsert battery. Boot into recovery (Volume Up + Power for 10 seconds).
  8. Using the volume buttons, menu button (as the enter key), and back button, navigate to the Advanced menu.
  9. Wipe Dalvik Cache. Confirm.
  10. Fix Permissions.
  11. Return to the main menu and wipe cache, then confirm.
  12. Choose "apply update from sdcard" and confirm.
  13. On the main menu, choose "reboot system now".
  14. When the phone finishes booting (it will take awhile since it needs to rebuild the Dalvik Cache), check your menu to see if the "Superuser" icon appears. It will probably (but not definitely) be on the last page of your menu.

If these instructions work for you, please confirm it. It took me a few tries before I arrived at the above procedure.
Ok, so I've got the CWM fastboot on my computer trying to run it. I've even run it as administrator, but it still hangs at "waiting for device". What should I try now?

Well, the installer now seems to be running, but the phone will not boot into CWM recovery. It just boots into the basic Android system recovery. What am I missing here?

I am trying to root my wife's A2 and am having no luck. She has the USCC version with stock 2.3.5 on it now. Anybody have a direction with the correct links to walk through this process. I am far from new when it comes to rooting and flashing roms on other phones but this thing has me stumped.

[edit] I followed the directions found in this link to a tee and they worked great.

Why would someone want to unroot?

So they can use the built-in Huawei backdoors to copy Muve music to the VFAT (Windows compatible) portion of the SD card using terminal and the cat command maybe? That could be a compelling reason, couldn't it?

"E:failed to verify whole-file signature."
"E:signature verification failed. Installation aborted."

Is what I got again. Please do not repost the same stuff. I gave a Huawei Ascend II on cricket with 2.3.6. Nothing that you guys have previously posted will work. I need something new.

Don't know to what extent you've seaarched for your problem but I had a hell of a time rooting my Ascend 2 UNTIL I came across this site: How to Root the Huawei Ascend II running Android 2.3.6 - TheUnlockrTheUnlockr
I followed ALL the steps to a T and it worked, and has continued to work for me as I tinker ALOT with my phone and had to use the rooting method quite a few times. Check it out and see if it helps. If not hit me up. I've been around the forums and back again, not that I'm any pro or anyhting. This should work for you and I'm interested to see if it does.
