Root [GUIDE] Unbrick/Unroot Lucid 2 VS870[KDZ]

Can someone help me out? I tried to root my phone first with the spirited_away file and followed everything as instructed. I'm on the 15th or so try. Sometimes it gets stuck at "daemon started successfully", other times it runs through the whole thing with over 200 tries of "/data/local/tmp/installbb.sh[5]: /data/local/tmp/busybox: not found", and other times just as many of "ln: /system/xbin/[: Read-only file system" with different file names. But it always has this at the beginning: "
[*] Nerfing RCT...
3800 KB/s (657700 bytes in 0.169s)
/system/bin/sh: kill: 359: Operation not permitted
[*] Enabling persistent root...

link failed Read-only file system

stem
Unable to chmod /system/app/Superuser.apk: No such file or directory
[*] Installing BusyBox...

2478 KB/s (15228 bytes in 0.006s)
Unable to chmod /system/xbin/busybox: No such file or directory"

Any time it is able to complete it does nothing after I press a final key and it just closes up. My phone says it's rooted (don't know how that happened seeing as none of the roots were successful) but every app I've tried says it's not. I also tried One Click Root which could not complete because I needed an internet connection. I use USB to tether my phone to the laptop. So I went to the library earlier and it was able to complete doing it's thing but it says root was unsuccessful.

I've already downloaded the drivers, I have Debugging on. What could be the matter? The thread with the old firmware doesn't work, all 3 links given just take me to blank pages. Also, I'm on Vista if that makes any difference. I'd love to be able to root my phone so I can use wifi on it. Verizon no longer has the mobile hotspot for unlimited data, besides this, tethering is my only option and I need the internet for working at home (no cable or landline here either). I'd appreciate any help!

Yes, it's the 11A. I don't feel comfortable using something that's meant for an entirely different phone =/ Do I have any other options?

I gave it a try. The first time it didn't work, the second time I did it as an Admin and it went through. But I've tried 4 different wifi apps and none of them work, they connect and quit after a few seconds.

Wifi Hotspot/Wifi Tether - InnodroApps
WIFI Tether: Network - TopAppLoft
Barnacle Wifi Tether - szym.net
Wifi Tethering - OpenGarden, Inc.

I tried looking for the signal on my phone, laptop and xbox and none of them could find it. I don't even know what it would be called anyhow. The only one that had me set up a password was the first one I listed, and even the network name it gave it was not on my list of available wifi networks. I'm at my witts end, it's been 3 days at this nonsense, I'm about ready to toss this junk phone!

Eta- The only one to get access for more than 3 seconds but less than 10 was Barnacle, and this is what it says:

Starting
Data network ready
.ini file prepared
wifi driver loaded
wifii:could not set ad-hoc mode of wlan0: invalid argument
could not connect to nat, will retry
running
wifi: could not set ssid of wlan0: invalid argument
stopped unexpectedly

Any ideas why it's doing this? I've given full permissions for SU. I'm still using PDANet but I shut it off completely when I try to use wifi tether.

FoxFi didn't work =( They don't have the second Lucid available for compatibility yet with anything from JuneFabrics. But I think it's something they'll be working on in the next few months.

i think wifi tethering is unavailable except the official one that i can't use because it's so far away from verizon :D

i have question, is it any possibility this phone can use GSM network with GSM simcard? little bit confused when i'd read from several website about this phone defined different spec about networking capability.

sory for bad english :D i tried the best with google translator:p

Hmm, kind of weird but that root is destroying my battery! It went from usually having around 19 hours after a full charge to only 7. I haven't changed my habits and I use very little in the way of apps, always closing them when I'm done.

Yeah the whole tethering thing has been making mad since day one of owning this phone. By now I think I have literally tried every hotspot/tether app out there without luck. It seem like we will need to get some new ROM (or phone) to get it. The USB tether does work on foxfi/PDA net. So if you don't mind installing a client on your pc then give it a shot. Bluetooth tethering won't work though either.

I'm so damn confused guys. And it's not your fault, I'm just a simpleton!

Phones been acting screwy, not entirely sure what I did, but my settings process stops working unless it's in list view. When I plug the phone in to my laptop, it just pops up as the LG Setupwizard mode. Changed everything in PC connection with no results.

I used the 2nd root that came out for this long ago, the one that nerfed the RCT thingy? I've just been ignoring the software updates, which I assume is a contributing factor to my woes.

Well, I got into titanium backup and out of shear frustration and boredom I just started wiping data and clearing cache of anything that said "System" or "settings.". I'm sure you are all laughing pretty hard at this. Glad I could make your day.

This has had some not so pleasing results. My home button no longer takes me to my home screen (It does nothing but light up) and my task manager button (to the right of the home button) does nothing but light up as well. My settings process still FC's and no luck with getting a USB connection to work past the silly driver mode thing.

So I was thinking I should just do a factory reset, from the option in the phone under backup/reset... But I suddenly realized I don't know what I'm doing. Will factory reset totally hose me? Do I really have to unroot this thing first? I'd be happy if a factory reset left me with root and the RCT still nurfed. Considering how my luck has been going, I doubt I'm going to be so lucky.

Thank you all for your help, sorry for the lengthy post, I just wanted to be as through as possible. Thank you for your patience with me.

Factory reset does NOT remove root and you won't have to unroot first. You'll just need to go to the App store and re-install SuperUser, SuperSU, or whichever root app you prefer.

I think a factory reset sounds like what you need to do to fix it.

Ok, sounds good. I've backed up all my personal crap to my SD card and will try the factory reset. Thanks for the quick reply. Could I trouble you for some suggestions on those apps? I'd like to use the versions that came with the original "hack". Busybox sounds familiar, it was all automatic. Like I said I just used the very first working auto-root RCT nerfer, from this site I think.

Fingers crossed! Thanks again!

I actually don't know what the versions of the apps were that came with the original hack. I personally use SuperSU to manage root and you can install the newest version from the app store which will work fine for you. I think BusyBox installs to the System partition which is NOT wiped on a factory reset, so it should still be the original version. If I'm wrong about that and it somehow gets wiped, you should be able to install it from the App Store. The newer versions should work for you and should work as well, if not better than, the original versions that were installed by the hack.

Worked perfect, thanks for the advice GnatGoSplat!

Still rooted and looks like busybox is still on there cuz it asked for root and said it was granted, so I'm getting titanium backup installed again and restoring my apps and stuff. This went very smooth.

I noticed people saying there are other hacks that work for this phone now. Should I be thinking about updating my firmware to the latest version from verizon and then trying one of the other rooting methods mentioned above? I'm assuming I'd need to wipe root off here before updating, or can I just update without unrooting?

I think my troubles all started when I let one of the verizon apps update. The Verizon data tracker app widget, but I'm not sure and don't see why that would affect it.

Anyway, many thanks for your time!

Glad it worked!
In my experience, it's not necessary to wipe root before updating. It'll update just fine, but you'll lose root. It should be possible to update and preserve root using OTA Rootkeeper. I updated from 10A to 11A, and Rootkeeper was able to preserve root.

My phone refused to update to 12A, wouldn't even download it, so I used the KDZ full flash method which wiped root and Framaroot was able to get root back. If the OTA will work for you, then I think Rootkeeper would still be able to preserve root but I don't know that for sure.

I updated because I had numerous bugs with 11A, like lock screen would just stop working. The lock screen problem seems solved on 12A so far.

i was strugleing with this guide error: Phone not found

however this may help

install the usb drivers from the OFFICAL LG website
LG LGVS870 Support: Find Manuals & Warranty Info | LG USA click on software update to download

OR!

try this if you can get into download mode or just soft bricked

LG Mobile Support Tool Free Download

that tool will update your phone even though your on the latest

1. once again install the usb drivers from the website
2.run the set up
3. take out your battery
4. put it back in
5. DO NOT TURN YOUR PHONE BACK ON! do not touch the power button hold vol up and down together as you plug it in this will ensure you are in download mode PROPERLY
6. top right coner of this tool once your completely connected (it says in the top left) theres a drop down click it and select update recovery

IMPORTANT!!!!!!! when your phone boots up around 90 pecent of the update DO NOT REMOVE IT IT the update will stall a bit but make sure you click the 'open device with windows explorer' and it will resume DO not be fooled that your phone looks no difference with the settings or apps it should be fixed anyway

Did the same thing also got success I will confirm this

Will the kdz full flash method allow me to use another gsm network carrier? I'm on 11a. I've only done rooting to my phone. I'm only allowed emergency calls with the sim card from a new carrier in the slot and wondering if kdz flash will help. Any suggestions?
