Can you check your Gmail account on your computer to see if all your contacts are there. If all your contacts are there you should be alble to sync them back to your phone.

Liberty is great! now i just have to know how to get my contacts from backup assistant from verizonwireless.com

Ok I figured out how to export your contacts. Sign into My Verizon. Under Device click "manage contacts" in the contacts window hit select all. then immediately to the right you'll see a drop down field click it then click export. A pop up will ask csv (outlook) click yes. it will then download the .csv file. Then go to your gmail account online. On the left click contacts. Then a little further down on the left you'll see import contacts. the follow the directions from there. You will probably have to re sync them on your phone afterwards.
