Guys! Try out GDE homescreen cube! AMAZING!!!

Originally i couldnt get my Weather Widget to load either so i just deleted it, rebooted the phone and re-added it.
Works fine now (other than the weather isnt always available, but that's a widget problem)

Great program though :)

I guess the good thing about this costing is since its so popular, its likely to keep evolving and get better and better.

I just about have my 3 default pages all filled up and need more space.

Besides the first impression people get when seeing your phone is the home page and how it responds...Nice to be able to show off the droids power right on the home screen.

I would be surprised if this is not the norm of the next version and I wonder why its not now.

Ran into a little snag with GDE last night, wondering if anyone else has experienced this:

I noticed that I had 2 "layers" of widgets, meaning under each widget, I had an identical one (for each of my widgets: beautiful home, power control, youtube, pandora, etc.)

Then, it seemed like every other app shortcut on my homescreens would not launch. So I could click on music and it would launch, but not cinema, which was right next to it. My messaging would launch, but not my browser or marketplace.

Anyways, I restarted a few times and it would resolve one issue and the other would still be there, and vice versa, the next restart, blah blah.

I got a little frustrated, so I've uninstalled GDE for now. Hopefully the developers keep pushing out updates and this can be fixed. It was much nicer having 5 home screens, but now that I am back to the stock home screen, it doesn't seem that laggy either.

Hoping for an update to GDE soon. It is pretty darn good, but often when I am returning home from an app the homescreen will be blank meaning GDE restarted. It will take about 10 secs to reload all the widgets and be stable then when i hit the menu button it defaults to control panel, where i have it set to default at all applications. Pretty frustrating.. enough that I am considering going back to default, but it would be hard as i really dont want to do without the widgets I am using. I wish application dock was a standalone widget then I could possibly deal with 3 screens. HTC passion, where are you!!

It doesnt seem to be an unsupported widget. I can put any of my stuff on any screen except 3. I tried 4 screens and 2 screens. I tried clearing everything off screen 3 and just putting a regular app shortcut there.. nothing seems to work for top row. any ideas?

you dont happen to have an empty application dock widget hiding there?

At first I was skeptical about GDE, saw the video wasn't really excited about it (and thought the whole cube thing was cheesy). But after trying it, I love it!! It doesn't use up too many resources (like Pandahome did for me) and really love how interface is!! I'm also loving the dock application but I hope it makes it so that 4 applications can be shown in stead of three, that bugs me for some reason.

A few bugs here and there with the transitions but all in all really great experience! I'm keeping this one :)

I would like to replace the phone button with a different app, Speed Dialler. I can seem to do it. I found the button options but the choices are limited. Why can't we include our own choices here?

After having a lot og little probs and sluggishness with gde I saw that dxTop wsas updated for the droid. It has a lot of neat features and is much snappier. some of the features are hidden but cool. I found I dont need to place many shirtcuts since it has an allapplication curtain and most recently used curtain which can be slid off the screen so you can also place your main shirtcuts like phone mail etc in a fixed dock at the bottom and then access the two curtains by long pressing back or menu button respectively. Also works perfect in landscape mode. Use home switcher to try each out.

Goto manage apps select GDE and clear defaults.

I'm sorry, but I've downloaded and clicked to use GDE as default and now I can't do anything.

If you tell me to go to apps... I can't.. from where?

I have a choice to put on my page. shortcuts "there is none for apps"
Widgets "there is none for apps", Folders "there is none for apps" and wallpapers.

Someone else said to go to settings..... same story.. from where?

This seems like a cool program in how it flips between pages, but you do you find your apps to drag them to the desktop?

Where am I missing it and why does it take hours to figure this thing out?

I put the widget " application dock" and now I have a bar with nothing in it and no way to add anything to it. I clicked it again, now I have two bars with same story.

Do I have to go to "manage applications" and uninstall GDE and start over to be able to see whats on my phone and access it?

Sorry, but this program shouldn't make you feel like an idiot.
Am I just not a level three Geek yet?

I have been running the updated dxtop too. Its nice but been having the black return to home screen alot. Hopefully a little more optimization will take care of it

Just go to the market/ your downloads/ click on GDE or any home replacement/open it/ then menu/more/task manager/ click on home/clear defaults. Then hit home and it will give you the option to select which ever home replacement you have installed:D

Doesn't work.. first of all I have to go to search to even find the marketplace app, then when I try to open its greyed out because its already open.... go when I go to GDE homepage and hit menu.. there is no more option... only
1. General phone settings
2. Personalize appearance
3. Desktop settings
4. Button settings

All of which have no "more" option or task manager etc....
Are you running an older version or something?... I just downloaded this.

For being called "GDE" which I assume has something to do with "Graphic Display" it certainly is void of windows and graphic user interfaces.
I feel like I'm in a rat maze and can't find the secret door.

Yes i have noticed GDE is like that unlike open home or dxtop. Just install home switcher from the market. It is alot more convient

I rebooted my phone and got a GDE error and had to force close, yet it still appears to be running?

Too bad..... this has allot of potential but the cake is not done.

I shouldn't "need" my other default home page if this is going to be the one I use... so why do I have to switch back and forth to get this set up? Its apparently not a true "home page" or it wouldn't be dependent upon the default one.

I browsed thier webpage which is up to 98 pages now and I didn't notice how to make GDE work for me still....

I'm right on the verge of uninstalling... someone please tell me there's hope!

The switcher isnt for the need of the default. I put it on there cause i like switching between open home, dx top and GDE, does as you want its your phone, was just trying to help you out

Ok.. for all the other poor suckers like me that can't figure this out....
This one post "#949" from their website gave me the clue to help unravel the rest.
You can't put widgets in the app dock, only shortcuts for apps. To move/remove app-docks long press top-right corner and drag to where you want it, or to trash can.

I may get some of this wrong, but I'm gonna post it nevertheless to clear my head of what I "think" I've learned... if I miss it.. feel free for someone to correct.

1. I don't plan on using the apps bar until I "really" get crowded, but its for many shortcuts "not widgets" that you can scroll horizontally endlessly for an unlimited number of shortcuts.

2. Hold your finger down anywhere on the GDE homescreen... "keep in mind when you hit your home button, thats the real homescreen for GDE" you will get a menu...

3. As you know there are very limited widgets so if you want one, pick the one you want an it will appear on that screen.

4. Otherwise pick "shortcuts" and browse to "applications" ... unless you have something else in mind.

5. Under applications, you will see all your apps.. scroll down and pick all the ones "one at a time.. as you repeat this sequence" that you want on that particular page.

Thats where I"m at now.... except for this little crash upon reboot, everything seems to work pretty smooth... at least I'm not stuck in a dark closet anymore.

Thanks Rachetjaw.... sorry for being so crabby.....

Have you tried any others and if so which is your favorite?

I saw some discussion about Panda Home and how the latest beta is improved but didn't see much talk after that.

Which one do you find the most useful?

ok... I"ve got 4 pages of stuff that seems to all work perfect.... only problem is everytime I reboot I get the error:
"The application GDE (processcom.rogro.gde) has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again"

Then there is a force close button.. and when pressed everything seems to come up perfect "GDE and all".... so I don't know what process that was that closed but GDE still works.

GDE is great. Navigating the menus takes a little getting used to, but other than that, it works well from the get-go. Using stretch instead of cube makes a huge difference. The screen transitions are very smooth.

Looks like I'll be uninstalling Panda

So I gave this a legitimate shot, and after almost a week of using and customizing this, I find it just too buggy and unstable. Too many problems resulting in a force-close, plus widget-layers and other undesirable effects such as landscape view.

Maybe if this thing gets a major update/overhaul I'll come back to it.

I installed GDE yesterday and really liked it. It really makes the Droid's power shine. However I uninstalled it today because of a couple bugs. The cube goes black every now and then when swiping. I had to do a soft reset to get it working again. Also, sometimes the cube would "flicker" if I swipe more than one screen at a time.

I think this program will be a winner very soon though! It really does utilize the power of the Droid.

I like GDE but I can't use it because my favorite widget, Weather Widget (donate version w/ Sense like Flip clock and weather), won't load. I place the widget and it just sits there forever saying "loading data" but it never finishes. If they can fix that I would stick with it.

I'm running GDE, and Beautiful Widgets...my Sense flip clock/weather app works perfect....well...except for that stupid gps bug.

Well. I can tell you I've tried Panda, Ahome, and what ever other piece of crap out, and GDE is where it's at. It's $3 for christ sake.

Why do people complain about buying apps? They give you a 48 hr trial period anyways. If you don't like it, paypal refunds your money. Big deal.

I don't know about you but I don't have time to put my life on hold for 24 hours so I can test to see if an app is worth it. 30-days (like any other store's return policy) would make more sense. Some apps you know immediately if it's worth it, but most of the time it takes me a week or two of normal use before I decide I want something. Most of the devs haven't had enough time to refine their apps so that they're worth paying for. I'd rather have a developer ask for donations.

I am still in love with GDE, how ever when you send them an email they wont respond!!! I found when i uninstalled advanced task manager and programs like it the glitches what few i had all but went away and the whole phone works faster. go figure... letting things run in the back ground would make the phone run faster.
