Guys! Try out GDE homescreen cube! AMAZING!!!

Just ran into a bit of an issue. When I open up my Apps menu there are duplicates of each of my app icons. Restart didn't fix it. Any ideas
Usually it takes 2 or 3 restarts. I now recommend dxTop it is much more stable and has some better features.

I was having minimal issues with this app until today. The mimimal issue I had was 1 and a reboot fixed it, so I don't know if it was the app or the phone software. HOWEVER, since downloading the update today, my screen has blacked out twice and my icons have duplicated twice. 3 reboots cleared the issue(s), so I'm lead to believe that this update was not a positive one. I obviously can't say for sure, but I didn't have problems with GDE at all until today (coincidentally or not) after I did the update this morning.

I don't know.. its perfectly stable with me and no blackouts, stalls or hesitations.
I have tons of progs and icons to shortcuts.. .a few widgets... no app bars am I using and I"m running cube.

I am using dxTop as well and like the features. It has 4 screens and you don't have to go though one to get to another. It always works like this left is left, right is right, up is home and down is 4th screen.

You can also put 5 icons on the bottom which appear in every screen. Has a built in task switcher/closer as well.

You can change icons, rename shortcuts, pick a larger font, adjust the transparency of the font background and color of font.

All my widgets work fine.

todays update seemed to clear up my issues just in time as i was on the verge of uninstalling. I really cant go back to the default home, and nobody is really convinving of being better than GDE, keep the updates coming!!!

I have had this app for about 2 weeks and have not had any trouble once I figured out how to use it. Now I'd be pretty upset if you tried to take it away.

Its improved "allot" in the last 2 weeks.. make sure your running the latest version.

Should the color of the the notification bar at the very top of the screen be changing when using different themes? The screenshots for the Obsidian and Hero both show a black notification bar, but mine didn't change when I installed these themes. Not really a big deal -- just something I was wondering about.

Thanks.

I've changed a few colorful themes and the Notification bar remained as is, black on white...

The recent release has pretty much fixed all my problems. The only problem I'm having is newly installed apps don't show in the app list initially.

Other than that this is now the only home screen replacement that I've found to be as stable and faster than the stock home screen.

Like the Stretch transition the best.

I think the screenshots are just from a different phone. I like the look of the black notification bar too but don't think there's any way to change it on the Droid.

i wanted this to work for me so badly, alas i have just uninstalled it. it all but made my droid unusable. none of my widgets worked (even after pulling the battery 4 times like i had read to do) phone totally locked up and even lost access to the market to even uninstall it. what a disaster. anyone know what i am doing wrong cause i really was excited about this and now i am back to regular old home

Are you using it on the droid?
From post 253... this is how I use mine.....
its perfectly stable with me and no blackouts, stalls or hesitations.

It runs on mine like it came with the phone.

Unless your allowing tons of apps to run in the background by not using a task killer "but you said you rebooted" or something else it eating up your resources.

If you have a droid and I have a droid, you have to have different software running or using app bars that "as far as cpu processing goes" is like having more screens and more balls to juggle.
I'm currently running 4 screens, getting ready to go to 5.

I try not to use widgets because instead of the simply being a door to open the program "like a shortcut icon" they usually cause the program to run in the background all the time even when you have no need for it.

I do have a weather widget, but I close it once I'm done, I do leave a app widget running in meter mode called "battery widget". I have BT enabled at all times and most of the time my wi-fi. Messaging, and corporate calendar runs, as well as handcent, voice dialer, alarm clock and gmail.

Seriously though, If you haven't installed "advanced task killer" its a real eye opener as to what all likes to run in the background "even when you never opened it".

GDE uses a fair amount of cpu resources.... may as well free up what you can when there's only so much to go around.

Maybe its poor programming... but on whose part?
Widgets and apps running in the background all have to interface with cpu requests and some are greedy and don't like to take turns.

Haven't tried the 'pay' homes yet (like GDE), but Panda New Home allows for plenty of pages... however, it has a few glitches when attempting to move apps on the Droid. Home++ is a nice new freebee that provides four pages and continuous scrolling.. and an animated widget feature (not many plugins for that yet). Home++ is much more stable than Panda on the Droid.

Well the way I figure... when I see how much my phone costs in the first place, and how much the data package is and the service I get... after looking at my final bill.. that tells my my phone is a pretty high priority in my life.

Based on that, I don't sweat a one time charge of 3 bucks.... "less than a hamburger or starbucks".

You can always bail within 24 hours and get a full refund or just install "home switcher' and keep playing with it as more updates come out until your happy!

Based on what I've read.. none of the other home apps are as cool as GDE.

If you enjoy the "wow factor" that comes with showing off the cpu and graphics power of the droid, I can't see anything that beats GDE.

There have been major improvements in the last couple of weeks.

Some of the discussion I'm reading is like comparing the smoothness of paintshop with the sometimes trippy but powerful photoshop.

One requires little resources and is non impressive while the other makes the cpu work but is impressive to behold.

Most people that drive a racecar expect to have to tweak it a bit to run its best.
While we don't and can't tweak GDE, we can keep our system clean as the DEV does his job and makes it more and more efficient.

Sometimes I feel like people complain because they can't throw a powerful program in with a bunch multiple apps that are written bad to good and expect it all to work perfect?

If Most people are getting GDE to work perfectly now, its not reasonable to keep looking at the DEV of GDE as being the problem but rather try and figure out what are we doing thats inefficient thats causing problems?

I can't imagine trying to make an app that works with every phone and every app all at the same time... that means I would have to have every phone and every app in my shop to test all the crazy configurations at the same time.

GDE has been getting updates that seem to improve everytime they come out.

I"m surprised people not only expect so much for 3 bucks.. but want it to be free because others are that do less.

I went and tried DXTop and just didn't like the layout as much. the dual drawer thing just didnt work for me. i saw no point in it. i like having my phone and contacts on either side of the drawer with GDE. DXTop also seems much more laggy than GDE on my droid. I originally went to DXTop because of the screen capture ability. BUT!, it doesn't work in other apps. just on your home screens. Blah, who cares. Since the last update GDE has been running great. all my FCs are gone and things run smoothly. I will keep it unless DX gets the screen capture working in all apps.

That's too bad...it's running (since the update from two days ago) great on my Droid. I use the Stretch transition, like it best of the ones available.

Something odd is going on w/your phone, some conflict that others aren't experiencing. Did you try removing widgets that you use on GDE from any other home screens you have installed?

If you have any patience for troubleshooting, I'd suggest you use it w/no widgets initially and then add them one at a time to see if they are affecting stability?

I agree, thats always a challenge with any computer.
I try to keep my stuff running perfect so when something goes wrong, its easier to troubleshoot it.

Since GDE has been updating so rapidly, its hard for folks to determine if they are still dealing with a buggy GDE program or if its now time to look at other programs that could have been an active agent in causing problems the whole time.

Since so many people feel it works great now.. I would install it virgin and install "home switcher" just to make life easy.

Once you have a virgin install of GDE, configure it how you like... set page numbers, wallpaper, cube or stretch etc.. all the simple stuff.

then add all the shortcuts you want...... at this point, it should be running great because so far you've done nothing beyond what everyone else does that reports good performance.

I would wait to install any app bars and from this point just install the necessary widgets you want.... just put them on one of your desktops for now.

If you made it that far and all is well... only then add an app bar.
When you do....... take note what you add..... shortcuts should be ok.... only now try would I try any widgets to the app bar.

I honestly don't know if the app bar is made to run well with widgets... it may have been intended only for shortcuts "not sure about that one"

Somewhere in all that, you should find your problem... if not.. something got corrupted or claimed cpu priority before GDE came along... at any rate, I hope that helps. :)
