Root GV 2.1 is out

Changelog
Version 2.1:

Kernel update to 2.6.38.4
Fixed CMParts LED notifications
Fixed villain setup thread link (thanks to mastermax12)

Woot!
will download and flash as soon as I get home.
Had LeeDroid reboot on me when using the camera today so was hoping new GV was out
Was the Led notifications not working in GV 2.0 that prompted me to leave so glad they are fixed now.

I've found 2.1 to be a little quicker and I still get the led notifications fine, and yep the home button notification works a treat in LP. Can I just ask what adjusting the heap does and what is the best level to set it to? I'm also trying running without using JD and have found the battery lasts just as long using man u 1.4 kernel.

Yeah, when I have a text or email my led still flashes, it doesn't when testing notifications but it seems fine for me, at first I thought it didn't work so I got ledmeknow but I no longer need it.

Ah just tried it and it does work - just not when the phone is on charge.
I guess the charge LED takes priority.

I've only rooted my phone and flashed the first ROM last week so excuse me if some of my questions are noob:)
So i've rooted my phone, done SD partitioning, flashed GV 2.0 and restored my apps using Titanium. Everything worked great, all done using SUroot guides - great job making them, thanks.
I'd like to flash GV 2.1 now (so i learn it all more mostly) so would like to make sure i'm taking the right steps so i won't have to start setting up my phone from scratch.
Obviously gonna make nandroid back up in case it all goes tits up:)
Do I have to do data wipe? If I do what kind of Titanium back up should i make? (back up all user apps? without system data?) I don't care about keeping texts/call logs.
And if i do have to wipe and restore with Titanium, will it restore Launcher Pro with settings i've made or will i have to do it all over again? Homescreens apps shortcuts and widgets cant be backed up right?

just make a nandroid backup incase if something goes wrong.
flash 2.1 without any wipes. no need of titanium/lp as you are flashing over existing version

If you get any random glitches or problems then you might have to wipe first.
See how it goes with flashing over the top like kewlbuddy said.

A bit off topic but maybe you might be able to help.

When my phone rings while its asleep, there's this few seconds delay before the screen where i can answer the call comes up. Never had that on sense, could this be GV or launcher pro glitch?

Second thing my gps seems not to work since the change to GV (yes its turned on:) ), when i go to Maps or Navigon the icon never comes up like it did on sense, and after awhile msg comes about location being unavailable. Sometimes might be due to buildings/weather conditions etc but tried few times in different locations.

The call delay seems a random thing happening in different Gingerbread ROMs.

The GPS problem was in some of the past versions. The latest versions have fixed that issue (try GV v2.1).

I've just rooted my phone.

Do I have to partition my SD card prior to flashing a ROM?

Is it neccessary?

Thanks,

It is not necessary, but you need to do it if you want a2sd+ support.
Follow the guides to make 1GB "ext" partition and allocate the rest of the space to "FAT32".

Well on the subject of GV2.1 in one word - excellent!
It's one of the first ROMs that has passed the acid test for me of being used in the wild and not letting me down.
Previous ROMs (Sense based or GB) have always decided to flake out when using the phone when I needed it, rebooting using camera, launcher running out of memory or battery dying too fast.
GV2.1 went with me to a wedding in Gloucester with me yesterday and function perfectly all day.
10 hours off charge, 50 photos taken (about 5 with flash), Facebook and photo uploading, couple of emails and a phone call.
Battery was down to 70% when I got home - very impressed with that!
The whole time the phone was smooth and responsive with no FCs or other glitches.
It even passed the acid test when my wife asked to use my phone, I passed it to her, she made a call then browsed through the photos I had taken.
No complaints, no problems.
If it's good enough for my wife to use it without breaking it, then it must be good :D

I agree. GV is one of the best GB ROMs out there. What I especially appreciate is the stability and the presence of CM features.
Yesterday I played with my friend's Xperia Play, which is running on Android v2.3.2. Many tweaks that I took for granted on GV were missing on that phone, starting from the notification power widgets...

70% after 10 hours is really good, which kernel are you running and do you use any battery saver apps?

Standard kernel with no battery saver mods... just very little use apart from when needed.
I didn't play with the phone much at all just unlocked, used then locked it straight after.

Took it out today 7 hours and down to 50% but I took a lot more pictures, used Facebook on the train as well as general surfing.
Display 60% (no surprise there was on full brightness because of the sun)
Mobile standby was 11% and wifi was 10% (I really should disable wifi when I go out and save an extra 10%!)

Still quite happy with the performance in general.
At one point the phone threw it's toys out of the pram and the launcher was sluggish and unresponsive - I killed the foreground app and it all sprung into life again so that may not have helped battery today.
