Root GV 2.8 + PUK code

First time ever I got my Desire jammed entering wrong PIN three times. Now there is text at notification bar telling me to enter PUK code. But how to do that? I have the code, but where can I enter it?
I have a backup of version 2.3, can I restore it in recovery in case that I can't open the phone? That would be pitty though, just when I have got my gadget to look and function how I like.
And by the way, how do I get to recovery mode after taking out and replacing battery? Haven't done this after rooting. Now long pressing on power button lets me to do nothing...

Have you rebooted the phone? I assume that you press the notification. Not sure what recovery will do to help. It's your sim that's blocked

normally you have to reboot the phone and then it will ask for the puk code then.

Problem solved. I wast just about to reboot again when my wife took my SIM out and opened it in another phone. Silly me. Unfortunately the other device is a Nokia. Now I just wait symptoms if I got infected ;-)
