Help Gyro Sensor problem?

I picked up my Inspire about five days ago for $20 upgrade price at Costco. Love it, aside from this little issue:

This happens occasionally when I play a game such as Teeter or Asphalt, the game will work fine. Then when I leave the application and go to something else, the sensor is stuck in the position it was when I left the application. Sometimes menus will stick in landscape mode, or the ball in Teeter will move to a place and stay there. A Shut Down and power up or a Restart does the trick, then it sometimes happens again. When the sensor is frozen, the calibration is as well.

Is this a defect or is it happening to others? I have about 25 days left on my exchange policy.

I am having the exact same issue. I have already returned my Inspire for another brand-new one and it is doing the same thing. Alternatively, my wife's Inspire is not showing this trouble at all, which leads me to believe that the cause is an app that I have installed.

I have been systematically uninstalling each app I have installed since getting the phone, and rebooting after the uninstall. I then watch for the symptom to appear. So far I have not found the offending app, if this is even the cause.

If my theory pans out and I find an app which is gumming up the gyro, I'll post again.

It's definitely a market app. But a restart should fix the issue in a pinch.

Yes, rebooting does address the issue, but for me the trouble would return about ten minutes after rebooting, so it really didn't even qualify as a temporary fix...

I seem to have fixed the issue on my Inspire, though. By process of elimination I came to the conclusion that it was the app killer I had installed, ATK (Advanced Task Killer).

I was able to re-install the other apps I had installed originally without any issues, but once I re-installed ATK it was only a few minutes and I lost auto-rotate. I uninstalled ATK and re-initialized my phone. Once back up and with all the other apps installed, I ran the Inspire a few days with no loss of auto-rotate and with no other failure of the gyroscope. I then installed a new app manager, which aside from not killing my gyro, I found to be a much better app: appkik.

Appkik is not just an app killer, it gives you more info about the installed and system apps on your phone. It has an interface to move all micro SD-enabled apps to the card and has a help file which I found to be really informative.

I have been running with appkik for 24 hours now with no issues. I'll post once again when I am truly convinced I'm out of the woods on this gyroscope mess!

I have not had any new instances of problems with the gyro since uninstalling ATK and installing Appkik. HTC Inspire.

Hope this helps others.
