Hi there, i have just got a Nexus s sim free and dont know what signal i should be seeing?
On my desire and on my optimus 2x it always showed as a hspa'H' signal in the top of the screen but on my Nexus it shows as a 3G signal. I am on T Mobile UK Could some kind person note down there settings for me please so i can compare.

Many thanks Sumo.:)

The nexus s doesn't show an H sign mate just 3g,g etc.

If you really want to know which you're on look in settings>about phone>status and scroll down to "Mobile network type"

Or you could root, most roms I've used have the H sign.

Thanks pete do you know if there are any messaging apps that can show a light to show
When a message has arived? Thanks

As there is no notification light on the nexus it isn't possible I'm afraid.

The only way to do it is to root and use a kernel with BLN which would light the buttons up when you get a notification.

BLN stands for "BackLight Notifications" by the way. What it does is light up the capacitive buttons below the screen when you have a notification. I believe that with the paid version of the BLN app in the Android Marketplace (with a BLN compatible kernel of course), you can set the lights to blink and do other things.

If you don't want to root, there is an app in the Android Marketplace called NoLED (link: https://market.android.com/details?id=com.led.notify). It sticks little notification icons on your screen while it's off. It takes advantage of the way the AMOLED screen works by leaving most of the screen black (since black pixels draw almost no power). It will drain the battery faster than the BLN option, but you won't have to root your phone or figure out how to flash a new kernel.
