Ok, i'm new, saying haai. (just checking how many wil understand this ;) )

I received my first android phone wednesday from my boss and I'm almost pleased with it. I've been in battle with it since I got it. To much junk still running, not my favorite browser but chrome that's keeping popping up and stuff like that.

I have to admit, go Lancher is fun, just ad the Old School Dialer I just found.
Anyway, just saying hi and trying to get some tips to get the most out of the phone without having to charge the thing every day. Main usage will be phone only, so getting a week of battery life is way more important.

Any tips on killing all unnecessary apps without rooting the Samsung Galaxy S II would be fine.

Welcome to the forums.

Generally speaking, you won't need to kill unnecessary apps, Android is pretty efficient at task management. Just because you see an app "running", it doesn't mean it's utilising CPU or eating away at your battery.

If you want to chat with other owners of your device about how to get the most out of it, you can find its subforum here: Samsung Galaxy S2 - Android Forums

Welcome to AndroidForums, T_I!

You'll find some very good tips in the links that El Presidente kindly provided you.

As far as killing apps go, Android 2.x and higher does an excellent job of auto-managing its own memory usage and I've found that explicitly killing apps is unnecessary.

Cheers and enjoy your Android experience!

Welcome to Android Forums. ( ...accompanied by the opening music from Jaws ;) )

The first thing you need to know about Android is it's not an iPhone and it's not Windows. The biggest hurdle people have is when they expect it to behave in a way they are familiar with and it doesn't.

As far as the battery is concerned, if you are a moderate to light user you can expect a day and a half to two per charge, but these phones are doing a lot on 1400 milliamps. You have to get used to keeping a charger around.

As far as killing apps, don't. Those apps listed as running aren't and if you kill them, Android will only reload them or other apps to utilize the memory. There are several good threads explaining the technical reasons for not needing to kill tasks. Android PSA: Stop Using Task Killer Apps – NOW
