Help Had Nexus for 2 weeks, a few concerns. MMS issues

If anyone has tips/suggestions to any of this, it'd be greatly appreciated.

I've had my phone now going on about 2 weeks, I love vanilla gingerbread. However i'm running into a couple issues i'm not sure what to do about... Primarily my battery life seems abysmal, wifi / gps ect off, with light usage I can almost watch my battery drop %2 per 5 minutes. Or, really, I'm getting about 4 hours out of it. That's with texting and.. a few map checks every once in awhile, no netflix youtube ect.

Also, ran into a few random reboots the past couple of days, phone freezes and reboots.

Maybe this one is just me, but i'll be texting someone and they tell me that one of the last messages that I sent out got received as a group of random characters and no words, i.e $%+_t&@ .... ect ect.

I think I have decent signal connectivity though it always reads stupidly low signal strength, but I haven't had any issues with GPS or anything, until yesterday in The Museum Of natural history, I couldn't lock GPS even though I've locked GPS in places deeper in buildings (I could see the windows)
But then a few min later, it locked on. It was quite weird.

I love the phone all in all, but these random bugs are making me think about switching to the Evo 3d.

I've got the same problem with random symbols in my texts!!! I've found that if i keep it under or exactly at 160 characters it goes through fine. If it goes past 160 characters, that's when it gets screwed up. Thought i was the only one with that issue, cause I've never seen anyone else post about it.

you can fix the problem of long texts converting to symbols with a setting in handcent (not sure about stock messaging app) that splits the message into smaller ones

I think random reboots and that sort of thing is often caused by buggy apps rather than the phone itself

That fixed my texting issues!!! Thank you!

okay cool, I found that message setting also in Go SMS Pro.

Having ghost like typing on my keyboards sometimes though, just remembering this. I'll hit letters, it'll put in a whole bunch of other letters, i'll hit backspace, and it'll just go bonkers putting in all kinds of random letters and basically not letting me type.

This occurs even when I change keyboards. I haven't tried resetting the phone to see if it resolves the issues. But wow does it happen a whole lot and god it's annoying.

I'd recommend trying Handcent, I've never had that issue, it works great and has lots of customizations

I have had my phone for about a week and a half and I too had terrible battery life, but now it lasts about 36-48 hours. To fix the problem you need to go to settings>accounts and sync and then click on your account (Gmail) and then UN-click sync with Picasa. That should fix the battery issue.

I highly recommend JuiceDefender. I had bad battery life originally to, but after I downloaded Juice Defender and quit CONSTANTLY playing with my new phone, the battery easily lasts all day. There have been nights that the battery has looked good, so I didn't bother plugging it in at night, but then the next day it only lasted around 1/2 the day. Either way, MUCH better than my original battery life.

As for the text messages, I'd recommend handcent too. The only problem I've had with handcent is that if you don't set up the settings to split messages that are longer than 160 characters, the recipient will get 1 message with random characters.

Going to try these new suggestions. Another question I have is, does using advanced task killer hurt things or drain battery life? I've heard ideas on both sides of the fence, and that android in the most recent versions doesn't even need a task killer.

I know this is the common stuff you may have read but when dealing with battery loss double check your screen brightness and check how often you have your apps set to check for email, facebook, twitter, etc. If your phone is constantly checking for updates it will wear down the battery. Same if its constantly looking for a signal (if you have low bars at work or something).

My only problem is unresponsive web browser. I'm using stock. Any suggestions on this issue? Page initially loads but won't scroll until the final data is sent. Scrolling is not smooth. I hope to not have to hard reset.

The only two issues I'm having is bad battery life (I'm going to give it another week for the battery to condition itself) and texting with the stock keyboard. I'll delete a word, retype it, then it'll randomly put another letter in (ex. I type "hello," delete it to type it again and it'll read "hhello."

I have also had my phone for a little over 2 weeks now. I went to a retailer to buy the phone and since I came from BlackBerry world I felt I was in Disneyland when I learned about all of the Apps I could download on my new NS4G. So I installed a number of them. Shortly thereafter I lost camera functionality and the ability to use my GTalk. So I went back to the retailer and luckily there were 2 Sprint representatives assisting the mobile phone department, so one of them took my phone. He tweaked it and removed the battery life widget I had installed, reset the phone and I suddenly had my camera and GTalk functionality back. The reasoning behind it is that when you put redundant apps on your phone they tend to work against each other and can interfere with the loading of another app. Your phone already has a battery power indicator. And the Task Killer is just another way to end apps which can be done in the Manage Apps menu. Just something to think about.

Regarding the battery life, I've had issues with that too. Im pretty much a noob at this stuff so I asked the Sprint Rep about how to extend battery life and he mentioned to use WiFi when at a place with WiFi for an extended period of time (for me thats home and the office) and to actually turn off the 4G/3G so its not searching for it therefore draining battery. My live wallpaper display was terrorizing my battery life so I instead googled "black wallpaper" on my phone, long pressed it, and set it as my wallpaper. Not glamorous but I actually really like the look of it and it saves a lot of battery life for me. And as mentioned above, I also take my display brightness down to zero at night and the display is still plenty bright enough to see.

Sorry so long, but hope it is helpful...
