Handcent and auto brightness

I've always used Handcent for sms, and I've never been ok with auto brightness on my Evo or 3vo. It always cycled, brighter, dimmer, brighter, dimmer, while I was watching the screen.

Auto brightness was rock solid on the LTEvo until I installed Handcent, then the cycling began. I went into its application settings and it dimmed the screen severly, giving a temporary popup that said that it couldn't control auto-dimming (uh - I didn't even want it to).

After trying various options, I uninstalled it and the problem went away.

And I'm not talking just about while running Handcent, it's while running anything with Handcent installed.

Anyone else?

I can't offer a solution, but I'll confirm this happens on the 1X too. I've always used Go over Handcent, but thought I'd give Handcent a go for a bit. I had to uninstall after a couple of hours because this was driving me mad.

Had the same issue. Mine would do it in mid text as I was typing. I had to uninstall cause that was driving me insane and went to stock again for now.

Some of you guys have some weird stuff going on with your phones
I use handcent too, I don't have this dimming/brightening thing going on. I don't like auto brightness either, when I first turned it on just to see what it would do, I didn't like it - so I turned it off and no longer have the issue.

I tried go sms a couple months ago and it was nice but I didn't find any options there that that I need that weren't in handcent so I uninstalled it again. Is it any smaller of a program?

Actually, I was trying to use Handcent and auto brightness together.

With stock and Go I am rather enjoying auto brightness for the first time - and I'm liking it a lot.

Didn't memory profile Handcent before, can't say about sizes, sorry.

As for some of us having weird issues - ahahaha - why do you think we always say, your mileage may vary??

It's bigger, but only by a couple of MB and space shouldn't be an issue on your EVO

I used GoSMS on my old handset because I'd CM7 and the stock SMS app is awfully basic. I liked it over handcent because at the time, handcent didn't have the option to remove the silly iPhone, bubble style conversations (or I didn't have the patience to mess around with the settings, I'm a little hazy), GoSMS did. I started messing about with it and created a couple of my own very rudimentary themes.

I had a weird issue with handcent and brightness, and it was very specific. If I went into settings, and just scrolled down the to brightness options (day mode, night mode, etc), the phone would dim, and stay dim while in the app. Once I closed the app, it would brighten back on (I'm on auto brightness). If I opened the app again, it would stay bright, unless I went back into the settings. It was only when I got to that specific area that it happened.

I loved Handcent, but it doesn't seem to be working perfectly on the EvoLTE (or ICS?).

Yeah, that's what happened to me, it interferes with auto brightness.
