long press on the thread and hit delete.
if you want to keep these texts for future reference, download smsbackup (free) from the market and it will create a section in your gmail account for them and send them to your gmail. they will all be there for reading in the future.
it doesnt save pics tho, you gotta save those manually or pay for an app to do that.

so you have too many texts between you and another person? like a 100+ text convo with someone else?Thats the only way? Its not that I have that many messages, it shows too many of them at a time. I've tried and bailed cause it takes too long.
the only way i would know of doing it is by deleting them one by one.
Chomp truncates the messages if they get to be a certain number of texts, but you can always go back and read them if you needed to.

Try an app called Auto Delete SMS.
You can set it to delete messages that are X days old. I have mine set to 7 since i figure I will rarely need to go back to find a message more that a week old.

i prefer chomp over handcent. let me know if you get a messages force close everytime you get an mms. it happens to me every time, after wards i wouldnt get texts anymore. thats why i had to switch.after deleting about 60% of my messages I'm switching to Chomp, which actually isnt half bad, no serious bugs so I'm very happy.
