Handcent killing battery after update?

This morning I woke up and my droid had 20% charge left in it and it was fully charged when I went to sleep. This has never happened until after the update but I also got a new droid the same day. So I dont know if this is due to my new droid or the update. Has anyone else noticed this?

Try using a different hand lotion.

Huh?

Anyway, I haven't noticed any crazy battery issues. Then again, I have a lot of apps installed other than just Handcent, but for me, battery life seems slight better.

Hard to really put a gauge on it though.

its a new phone.. battery life improves greatly after the first few charges.. patience my friend.

Its a new phone...not a new battery (if that means anything). Yea I know it was handcent because I checked it in spare parts on partial wake usage and it said handcent was on for 7 hours. It wouldnt stay on like that before the update/on my other phone.

Why aren't you guys leaving your phones on a charger while you sleep? Won't hurt the battery or phone in any way, and ensures you start the day with a full charge.

On topic - I've used Handcent as my default SMS app before and after the update, and no battery issues/draining problems.

The app runs continuously. How long it has been running has nothing to do with its battery usage. Mine has been running for 16 hours, and I still have 70% battery, and handcent doesn't even register under battery usage. Instead of looking at time under running services, actually look at the battery usage screen and it will tell you exactly what is using your battery.

I usually do. I forgot to put it on the charger before I went to sleep.

Guys, you have to check your battery use to see what is eating your battery, there is no need to speculate.

I did and it said running. The system just "running" does not consume 80% of the battery overnight.

You are missing my point. You need to look at the battery usage screen menu - settings - about phone - battery usage. This will give you percentages of what has been using your battery. It will reset when you plug the phone in however.

Make sure to hit other usage, and then choose the view for partial wake usage. Since your phone definitely sleeping overnight (hopefully) then that would show you what took up the most amount of battery. Running i would assume is an umbrella for everything the phone does? I have no idea though. Running on mine right now is 35 percent, well above the next highest battery usage, but when I go into partial wake usage, it shows android system as highest, then music significantly less etc etc. I use handcent also and that doesnt even show up for me either (though messaging does as an extremely small sliver). Going through all the different graphs in Spare Parts reallllly helps you diagnose whats going on, and see if its a specific application.

I just looked at mine and handcent isn't even in the list of the things using my battery. Display is 64%. That would be my battery drainer, although I have had the phone off the charger for 7 1/2 hours and it is at 60% so I'm not complaining.

Apparently the information provided by spare parts isn't as straight forward as the built in battery usage screen. I would recommend looking there for a simple straight forward list of battery sucking items with percentages. But whatever you prefer, to each their own.

Yup, I have been using handcent all day plus made a call or two. Almost 8 hrs off the charger and I'm at around 80% battery. Haven't really used the browser or anything, but I'm amazed at how much better the battery life is after the update.
