Help Handcent vs Stock text message app?

just a few notes:
with smspopup i just installed it to try and there's now an option to disable notifications if you're on a call so it won't make the notification sound and interrupt your call
i started using handcent for the pop-up but i still use the stock app (i've got a htc legend) for outgoing messages unless i'm replying to a pop-up, because i find the handcent app too busy. i find the most important thing with both to keep them functioning properly is to not let too many messages accumulate (just delete old messages or back up and delete before you get too many). My phone got to about 3000 messages and started playing up and at that stage it's hard to back-up and delete so many messages (my phone was out of operation for a whole day deleting old messages!)
