ATT rep initially quoted me a $175 termination fee on the Aria and then corrected himself closer to the $300+ range (I don't remember the exact number). When I heard $175 I was like "oh! That's not bad at all!" and then when he "corrected" himself I kind of shrugged it off as "oh, of course. Well... whatever, I need a phone" which is how I think, even if it was true, that most people unfortuantely feel. Kind of like seeing 15 pages of TOS to join a website or update some software and you just agree instead of reading it like you planned to.

But the ATT website says:

Early Termination Fee: None if cancelled in the first 30 days, but up to $35 restocking fee may apply to equipment returns; thereafter up to $175

of course the next line is:

Some agents impose additional fees.

But lower down:

30 DAY RETURN POLICY
No early termination fee if cancelled in first 30 days. Thereafter, the fee will begin at $175 per device and decrease by $5 each month for the term of the agreement. Some agents impose additional fees.

which seems pretty cut and dry to me. Unless my math is off, then even if you cancelled early you'd get the phone cheaper than buying it off contract.

Note: that's for the Aria, not the Captivate (which I am deeply considering) and I am a bit intoxicated so I may have missed some big point...
