Help handscent sms and native sms notifications

I downloaded handscent and my when I get texts I get two messages one for handscent and one for the native app. How do I turn off the native one?

you can turn off notifications in the native app...they will always show up in it

I went into my settings for the native messages app and turned everything off, then I removed the widget. Now I only get notifications for handsent.
