Handset options for Tmobile

ok quick search the galaxy light, 4" screen with 480 resolution, most of the others are larger screen higher res, personally 4.3 to 5" with at least 720 res is better but it really is all in what you want, the rest of the galaxy light seems decent especially if its a sub $200 phone.

Looking at t mobile if you go post paid and finance the phone you can get several at good prices $0 down and just a few dollars a month.

The F6 is LTE 4.5" but not quite the specs of the galaxy light, it will do if your not into a power house phone.
The F3 says LTE though at 4" and older slower hardware there are better deals.

Ok, so I've more or less decided on the Moto G. On the Motorola site when you click to buy it gives you an option of US GSM or Global GSM. I'm unsure of which I need and what the differences are. Any help is appreciated!

I would go with the US GSM unless you travel out of the country alot. But from my understanding, if you get the Global GSM, it may not work with all compatible US carriers frenquencies.

I'm ordering my US Moto G tonight and looking at their website, it should ship around the 9th, sooner I hope.

Great! Thanks for the info.

Did you ever figure out if the MG will run on Tmo's 3G network? I'm about ready to order one too, that is if I can run it on Tmo properly. If not I may just relent and get a nexus 5, though I'd rather just get the MG. I wish there was a more direct , easily accessible info source for this phone amd others. Seems like info is scattered all over the place.

Oh, while I have your attention saptech, what is the deal with the free tmo Sims? How does that work?

I don't know how alot of this networking stuff work either. I'm just going by what I've read, mostly on the AF forums. :D I'm hoping the UMTS/HSPA+ up to 21 Mbps (850, 1700 (AWS), 1900 MHz), is similar to 3g/4g type of speeds. I'll be satisfied.

Just click the link in the other topic about free sims and place order, it should come out with $0 due today or whatever it show.

Oh man, what a conundrum. So the Moto G is a maybe then. Guess we'll have to wait and see if someone posts any data on the speeds they are getting on Tmo.

I'm looking for the prepaid $30/ month plan on The Tmobile website and boy they don't make it easy to find! I know I'm probably boring the sh*t out of everyone with my posts but I'm super new to this and just trying to understand the steps I need to take to get up and running.

So let me get this straight, I have to go to Walmart and buy a sim activation kit? Then what do I do? I don't see any option for activation or purchase of the $30/ month plans online, it just says you have to go to Walmart, which in itself is worth getting discount for :p Also not seeing any option for free sims. It seems you have to select a phone that Tmo actually sells before you can move on to order a sim, needless to say the N5 and Moto G aren't on the list! Frustrated.

As always, any hep is much appreciated!

Ps, saptech, if we both end up with MG's on Tmo we'll be able to compare data and service

Ok the Moto G US version will work on t mobiles 3g/hspa + network, from my understanding its only going to get a 9mb/s to 12mb/s download speed with 1.5mb/s to 3mb/s upload speed. If coming from virgin it will feel like a slice of heaven I know, however if you get a LTE capable phone, and if LTE is available it would be way way faster.

As to the sim, t mobile sometimes puts out free sim's though its a hit or miss on them, I think they might currently be doing the promo. I will edit a link into this post if I find one.
The walmart activations are going to cost, how much I do not know. The $30 100 min 5gb fulls speed data is generally an online or over the phone plan. its buried deep in the website I will try to find it and link it as well.

$30 100 min 5gb full speed data plan. Scroll about midway down the page you will see the plan

Although looking at the plan does not allow you to use it, you need to select that plan from the sim activation page when you activate the sim.

The T-Mobile SIM kits will give you what you need to activate your phone on T-Mobile. The normal cost is typically $10, they are currently free. When you activate your phone, there should be no charge other than the $30 (for the "Walmart" plan) for the first month. The instructions will be in the SIM kit, but basically it is having the phones IMEI, the serial # from the SIM, and an activation code that is included in the kit, and entering the information at this website.

I get an error message saying they are having trouble processing payment and to contact them but they give no contact info. Haha. I'll give them a call in a moment.

And thank you both for your help! I see that online Walmart has the sim activation kits for 39.88 which is basically the $30 for the plan and just under the usual $10 that the sim kit normally costs. Walmart also appears to have refill/ airtime/ topup cards for $30 as well. Is this how you renew your month?

There are many ways to renew, you can set up auto payments (check or credit card) though that will give you sales tax on the $30 depending on where you live.
You can get online renewals and several online retailers callingmart.com to walmart. Some will have sales tax, such as walmart and some will not.
You can also go on ebay but be careful and check seller reviews if you do go with ebay.

Personally, I'm using callingmart.com for my refills. While it is still $30 for the refill, they don't charge me sales tax and every purchase you get 1% of your purchase in "points" that you can use on future orders -- so not much of a savings but am essentially paying $29.70/month. It is as cheap a method as I've found (other than taking your chance with eBay).

I have no issues with TMO in San Diego. The only problem is signal strength when you are inside a house or building. It's either weak or non-existent. But this is a general problem with TMO, and not unique to SD.

Hi pda96, thanks for the info! Do you find the data speeds are good? Out of curiosity what handset are you using? I've heard that about a few different carriers lately. My VM coverage is generally quite good except for certain buildings. Get great signal at work and almost none in my house.

Thanks again.

My friend got on the $30 100min/unlim text/5gb plan a few months ago with the Nokia 521 and has been happy with the speeds he gets. It's fast everywhere he goes. He's not too far from the UTC area.

I'm in a similar boat. I've been trying to get my hands on a cheap Android with LTE and at least moderate long-term updates guaranteed. The closest matches have been the LG Optimus F6 and the Galaxy Light. The problem is neither phone has substantial support on XDA forums. The Moto G is out of question as it doesn't have LTE or HSPA+ 42mbps internet.
