handy app "turn off screen"

If you're like me and have your phone set to never time out, this app is nice. You touch it and it's like clicking the power button. Should extend the life of the hard key power button. I like it because it's just much easier for me to find without fumbling around for it on the top.

Free app too. :-)

Here is the one I use:
Screen Off and Lock..

It has the old TV style screen off animation, which makes me giddy each and every time I turn off the phone. Been using it for about a year (my old hTC EVO 4G had a difficult to press power button as well.)
Another nice thing is that this is not a widget. You can change the icon in ADW or GO Launcher, and even put it in your Main Dock, so it is visible on all of your screens.

The donate version will exit completely and free up all the used memory after the screen is turned off or locked. But the free one works just fine.

I like that one better but the only animation I can get to work is the snow. The old TV one would rock.

This app seems like an extra step that isn't necessary. :p

Have you guys ever tried Screebl? It's an app that I absolutely cannot live without!

I don't have my Rezound yet so I'm still using it on my Charge, but best believe it will be one of the first apps that I install when I get my Rezound.

Just a quick nutshell description of Screebl....Basically it keeps your screen on until your phone reaches a user-defined specific orientation angle. It's totally customizable so you can make it exactly how you want.

For example, my screen stays on while I'm holding the phone at most angles. It automatically turns off when my phone is set down on a flat surface. That works perfectly for me and I wouldn't know what to do without this app!

It just takes that extra step out of having to manually turn off the screen with the power button.

Check it out!

I downloaded from the market rather than that web site, do you think that may be why it won't show the animation? I set it for delay then picked the effect, it only shows TV static but no other animation works. Also deleted and re downloaded and same deal. I really want the slick looking old TV effect.

Is there an app that will turn the screen on without pushing the power button?

I got mine out of the market. Go into settings on phone, go to display and make sure animations are turned on.

Mine doesn't have that as an option under settings > display.

I downloaded it on my droid x and it works but the x also has the animations option. Hmm.

Thanks going to try it with launcher pro and see what happens.

Launcherpro didn't work either :(

I'm experimenting with Screen Off and No Lock together. No problems so far. Put screen off on home page and unlock phone with no lock. I turn the phone on by hitting the larger volume buttons. Seems to work. Just when you boot up initially your home screen is blank until you scroll it.

Download spare parts from the market.
Under "general", ensure transition animations isn't "off". I set mine to "Normal". Then the Old TV style will work.

None of the animations work for me except the one where its all fuzzy. Anyone know how to get the rest of them to work?

Sorry about that spoke to soon. I swear that I saw animations somewhere on mine, but I can't find it now.

Good thread.....the Rezound designers gimped the most basic function of electonic devices (on/off) by making it more ergonomically challenging than it needs to be. Another Sense perk....most recent apps are at the top of the notification bar so I don't need to go to the page that has my 'Screen Off' shortcut.

In addition to possibly finding it in the recent apps, you can configure Screen Off and Lock to put a shortcut in the notifications area!

NoLock allows the power or volume button to re-activate the screen with no further screen swiping needed
Yeah, there are several lockscreen apps that allow that behavior, but it unlocks in my pocket an butt dials people. I need wake only on vol press. CM7 had this option. Hoping CM9 does, as well.
