Root Hanging, rebooting, and all around bugs.

I recently flashed the CM 10.1 Nightly onto my Skyrocket, and shortly after, I got the Zlaza extended battery and put it in.

After a while, I began to notice some weird things happening. My phone, when trying to turn on the screen, will have the lights come on as if I pressed the button, but the screen won't come on. The only way to fix it is pressing the button several times. Another problem is that sometimes, my phone will completely freeze up (and sometimes nonstop vibrate) and I have to hot boot.

Does anyone have any ideas on what to try?

Thanks, Atma.

If by factory reset, you mean clearing /data, /system, and /cache, I've done that, but I'll try it again later and post results.

Actually, I've found it difficult to format /system using ClockworkMod recovery. Is there an option I'm missing?

Well I meant there should be an option in recovery for wipe data/factory reset.

Which version of CWM are you using?

I don't have the Skyrocket but I love the TWRP Touch Recovery on my T-Mobile Galaxy S2. I see its also available on the Skyrocket if you want to try it.

There is wipe data\factory reset, but nothing to wipe \system, which I was led to believe is good to do if installing new ROMs.

I'm using CWM Touch 6.0.1.4., from as best as I know. I can't get to my phone right now, but that sounds about right.

Yeah, if installing a new rom you want to wipe everything.

Sometimes just doing the wipe data/factory reset option can clear up bugs if you're having problems with a rom you already flashed. You might also try wiping cache partition and dalvik cache first to see if that helps. You won't lose anything, like apps, just doing that.

You might try a newer recovery, either CWM or TWRP. That can also help when running the newer 4.2.2 jellybean roms.

When I get home, I'm gonna try installing TWRP and factory resetting. Thanks for the help, and I'll post back when I get a chance with results! :ciao:

Unfortunately, I had less than fruitful results. The same symptoms persisted after re-flashing. Could it perhaps be a bug in the nightlies?

Yes that's certainly a possibility. I've had nightlies that worked great and then then next one would screw something up.

So I had an idea and flashed back to an M-Snapshot in April for the Skyrocket, and it's ran now without a hitch.

I think a bug in the Nightly is more likely. I'd make a Nandroid backup, but the SD card I have is too small. :stupid:
