Happy with your S2?

Hi Shocker. :)

Depends, what carrier are you on? Never owned an S2, but have the S3. From reading about the S2 it's a pretty solid device even with the S3 and the new S4 rolling out.
I'd say it's definably worth it.

I have an S3 for my work phone, and coming to end of my contract with my S2. If you can wait just a tiny bit longer, the S3 is going to drop in price rather precipitously, and I'd recommend that one over the S2. I liked my S2 a great deal - until AT&T sent out crap software (4.0.4). I had a kind person root my phone and install the SuperNexus ROM on it, and I fell in love with my S2 again. So - yes, it's a good phone if you can run stock software on it, and not the crap Samsung/AT&T put out. But the speed of the S3 is breathtaking...

Being value oriented, I love the S2. It is getting long in the tooth but can easily go another year.

Don't pay more than $200 off-contract though, as Flyingpig noted the S3 and other phones will be dropping in price.

JB really does make the S2 run like Butta'.

I believe the UK is one of the European countries that does have LTE. The S2 does not support LTE, so wait just a bit longer to get better value with the S3 - which will support LTE. That'd be my recommendation.

That said - and to answer your original question, the S2, running a ROM like SuperNexus JB is a superb phone. And considering it's now over 2 (3?) years old, you should get a really phenomenal deal on it. Like free or something?

Good luck!

Yeah, a friend told me how the S3 will drop in price after the S4 comes out. Would be nice to take advantage of that rather than the S2. :)

I'm at the end of my contract, and having looked at all the available new phones, I think I'll keep the S2 and go sim-only for at least the next year.

I'm still very happy with my S2; it does everything I want it to, there's still a good active dev scene for it, and - rather importantly for me - it actually fits into my hand! I had a good long look at the Experia Z, but it's just too sizeable for my liking, and that seems to be the pattern with all the latest handsets.

Plus, the S2 is fine for calling, browsing, pictures, emails, etc - I'm not a hardcore gamer, so to be honest I have no need for a quad- or octo-core phone.

Happy? Oh my, yes. Would I do it all again? Definitely! :)

I got my S2 in Aug 2011 and could probably get an upgrade next month to an S4 (with Virgin Mobile in UK) but I don't think I will unless they give me an excellent deal. I am running 4.1.2 and it is running great (battery life could be better but I have two batteries so normally have one ready to swap in). I got my wife a Nexus 4 and I am not that jealous apart from the fact it a newer toy, my S2 does everything I want it to. Also, there are rumours it will be getting 4.2.

EDIT: So yes, I still would have gone with it.

I feel the same way, there isn't anything out there at the moment (Note 2 excluded) that makes me feel an upgrade is essential

As many have said, the S3 will be getting in the $50 - $99 dollar range for US Carriers that subsidize phone costs with a 2 year contract.

The S3 will be more "future proof", by possibly getting Key Lime Pie in a year or so, where the S2 will likely not. As a matter of fact, the original AT&T SII (i777) variant still hasn't recieved Jelly Bean yet.

That said, I've had the i777 device since release, and it's been a pretty solid phone. It's held up longer (hardware wise) than my iPhone 3G, and all the issues I've had with it has been as a result of software bugs with Android (after Samsung & AT&T have mucked it all up).

Another benefit of the i777 or International variant is the 4" Super AMOLED screen, if you're not a huge fan of the expanding size of new Android phones. (The S3 is 4.5 inches).

To be honest, I'm a little underwhelmed by what was introduced with the S4....and if the SII gets Jelly Bean soon (with Google Now being the biggest draw), I may just wait it out to see what the new Nexus line will look like this Fall....or hold over for the S5.

I've been able to upgrade for over a year now and am still using my S2. Theres no other phones out there that I'd rather have. Especially now its on Jelly Bean.
