Root Hard Bricked Evo w/ Unroot - Tried Guide, Help Please!

Hi everyone, looks like I screwed up pretty royally and I'm hoping that someone far smarter than me at this will see a solution. During the unroot process for my Evo 4g (Original HBoot 2.02.0000 running Nitrous ROM 1.4.7), I followed this guide: http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-all...ooting-dummies-guide-gingerbread-edition.html

I realized too late that I should've been on the 2.3.5 guide. I flashed HBoot 6.17 via bootloader which updated the version but stayed S-OFF, tried several times per the guide. Next I flashed the 2.15.00.11.19 radio .zip via recovery, then was told (by the zip flash instructions) to reboot to finish applying changes. Did so, then got the phone + green arrow screen which didn't change for a couple minutes. I pulled the battery then found that power button did nothing on reinsertion of battery, no light when on charger or USB cable.

I tried the guide here:
http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-all...k-guide-hard-brick-only-wont-turn-charge.html
About 5-6 times total, got no response from phone - no vibrate to signal USB mode, no response from computer, no charging light. I also tried the suggestions here:
http://androidforums.com/evo-4g-all-things-root/488873-hard-brick-issue-tried-unbrick-guide.html
Even though the situation seemed different from mine. No luck there either.

Any chance I can get this thing running again? Many thanks in advance, please let me know if there's any more info I can provide.

welcome to the forums!!!!!!!
unfortunately you made the mistake of pulling the battery out while you were flashing radios that is one of the few ways to officially brick your phone.

edit: sorry to be the bearer of bad news. i know of no fix for this.

Bad news, but thanks for the warm welcome and quick reply! So the green arrow screen was actually a flashing step...curses. In the (likely) event that it's impossible to resurrect, is there any danger in selling it on ebay (with full disclosure, of course)? I'm concerned that it might retain my account information somewhere.

well lets verify that you are fully bricked. lets try and go into the bootloader. if you can access the bootloader then all is not lost. so power off the phone (in this case pull the battery out) and then press and hold power+vol down. report back with what happens and what you see.

Couldn't get to bootloader, no response whatsoever from phone with power + vol down. It had been on AC charger for a couple hours, still no charging light. Seems completely dead.

Yes, will not power on at all. I don't have a spare battery (but charge was ~70% when starting the fatal flash), is there any other method of retesting? Leave on AC overnight maybe?

not that i'm aware of. maybe try and leave it charging for a while and see. but this situation does not look good. try charging it for a few hours and see if you can get to the bootloader. if you can then there is a sign of hope.

I'll leave it on overnight and see if something miraculous happens, then post back. Not proud to be in the small-ish camp of user-error hard bricks but it's a memorable lesson.

its only a phone. you live and learn i guess. i just wished that you came here first before all this happened.

keep us posted.

On my phone the power button down vol. no longer works, but if I hold the down vol. while putting in the battery I get a boot menu.

Although I don't know if it works. I'm having troubles getting a custom recovery installed.

Is it the bootloader menu? What does it say on the screen?

welcome to the forums!!!!!!!

you have s-on? how did that happen? what exactly did you do? a ruu will not get you s-on (especially if you were s-off). i'm guessing you rooted using unrevoked. if that is the case then you would have needed to flash the s-on tool to get s-on. all a ruu will do is give you a stock rom and stock recovery.

do you still have a custom recovery?

well all i did was format the sd card but then it would not detect my sd card
so i flashed it with ruu to bring back to stock in the hope to get it to root again n then recover from my backup (clockworld recover)
but now all i get is the hboot menu
and have s-on.

I did a lot of things so i am guessing i might have used the s-on tool
I no longer have the recovery
If i boot the evo normally it would stay on for like 3 minutes and then shut down

ANy chances i can recover my phone without having to send it to htc ?

well the issue now is that you have s-on and no custom recovery. not much you can do with that but a factory reset and hope that works. if you had s-off still at least then we can try and get you a custom recovery which would have given you more options to troubleshoot the issue. but without those, your options are very limited i'm afraid.

your other option is maybe try and re-root the phone with unrevoked. if that works then you can use cwm and wipe dalvik cache and cache or do a full wipe and try a custom rom.
