hard reset Droid 2

I've been told I need to do a hard reset on my droid 2... I've had this done once before and lost all my data/apps. I really don't want to do this if I don't absolutely HAVE to. How do I know when it's necessary?
HELP!

A hard reset usually means a factory reset on a phone which does delete everything off your phone except your contacts thoses will be auto added after you reboot your phone when you sign into your google account, but it depends on what's the issue with your phone, would you please elaborate the problems you are experiencing on your phone to see if a factory reset is necessary.

Thanks for replying! I just did the hard reset.... but it didn't help at all!

Here's what's happening with my Droid 2: It's randomly opening apps, jumping around, moving from one thing to another.... WITHOUT my touching it! I'm wondering if there's a problem with the touch screen??? It's like it's trying to process a whole helluva lot of "touches" all at once! Or maybe, it's just "possessed!" LOL! I'm just kidding.... but it really seems like it!

For example, when I was typing a text message, it suddenly went to the home screen, clicked on the camera, took a picture, then went to the Dictionary app, then went to Gmail... all without my touching it! Ha! I'm thinking it's time for a new phone. ??? Was sure hoping I could resolve it by doing a Hard Reset, but no luck. Any thoughts?

Thanks!!! :) Amy

LOL well it seems theres something either wrong with the touch screen or the sensitivty of the screen my guess is that its the touch screen if yoy till have a warranty on your phone you can call Motorola and tell them the problem so that they can repair it for you BUT only if theres no damged marks on the phone like signs of drops etc. And if you do decide to get a new phone i would suggest the samsung galaxy nexus the first android phone running android 4,0 you definitely wont regret it.
