Root hard reset

2 dumb questions. Clear storage via the bootloader would accomplish this? And this won't remove root acces, correct?

1) How did you root? Do you have full root (s-off)?
2) If so, it's probably a better idea to boot into recovery, and wipe data from there. I'm not positive what all the hboot "clear storage" option will wipe. It probably is the same thing, but I can't verify. What exactly are you trying to do? Just start over in your current ROM (or stock ROM), but keep root?

Have full root via unrevoked 3.3. Wasn't sure if to use clockwork or default from bootloader. I have the stock rom, but before I rooted... I played around with the wimax settings [entering ##DATA# and tweaking it so it would connect at a lower signal strength/wouldn't drop signal til a lower point, as well]. Then 4G stopped staying connected. It scans, connects [less than 2 seconds...shows 4G icon in top bar], then says disconnected. Fixed Wimax settings to back to default, but same issue. Forgot about this issue when I became excited about rooting and figured I would try a hard reset before I attempt to unroot and take to Sprint. Sorry, didn't intend to make this that lengthly.

Also, installed terminal emulator and ran wimax_mtd. worked fine. also did the grep thing as well {needed busy box} and that ran flawlessely, so I still have the keys...just trying to trouble shoot the problem.Thanks.

Well, if you reverted the changed you did (I assume you followed the guide on xda), then verified you have your keys and wimax_mtd is fine, I would say a hard reset couldn't hurt. Do it through recovery (wipe data), and you will most definitely not lose root. You wouldn't either through hboot, but I'm not positive it's wiping all the same stuff. It probably is, but... As for 4g, there are a few other things you might be able to try. Start with the hard reset, and see what it does. Of course, make a backup first.

Was about to hard reset and wanted to double check the wimax settings (##DATA#) and everything is 0 or a 0 (but it is boxy...kinda like two brackets > [] ) but the character is closed like a 0. I find this odd because I've checked it multiple times and it always had actual values in it. I only changed 3 of them like xda said [GUIDE - YMMV] Connect to 4G sooner & stay on longer - xda-developers

So if some one could post the exact default values for everything... I would love you. Otherwise I'll be going the route of wiping the device. thanks.

edit: Found values on xda http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=7287011

Update. I input all the values in (kept the one's i wanted to change). But for some reason the Frequency was the 0 that looked like the closed bracket of this []. Long story short... put 4g mac address in and then selected menu and clicked "commit settings/modification" phone rebooted and 4g is now active... although it went back to all the default wimax settings.
When I attempted to change it the first time [for better signal] I am positive I only tweaked the few numbers I wanted to. Perhaps the rooting procedure affected it somehow or maybe it's just a bug on my phone. For now, I am just happy to have my 4g back... even if it does take a little longer to re-connect than I would like it to. Thanks for the help (didn't need to wipe).

When I said thanks for the help, I really meant it. (no sarcasm). Your post made me want to double check one last time and because of that... I didn't need to wipe everything. Saved me some time/trouble. Besides, troubleshooting someone on my own is a great feeling. It's great to know, I can receive input from here as well... If I can't fix something on my own. :)

Yep, it is indeed a great feeling when you can fix something yourself :). It also enables you to help other people out when they have the same issues.

Just tried 4g and again same thing. Connecting then immediate disconnect [double checked & wimax settings are completely stock/default]. Guess I'll be wiping device after all. Any more idea's would be appreciated [will be back on tomorrow evening some time]. Thanks.
