Help Hardware buttons not lighting up

The hardware buttons on the Wildfire, are they supposed to light up all the time, or only in dark conditions.

On my Desire HD the hardware buttons light up everytime, but on my friends Wildfire, they only seem to light up in real dark conditions.

It would be nice if they lit up all the time, as in dusky conditions they don't, and are hard to read

Dear Android Experts!

I jus got a HTC Wildfire S. I set it up and was satisfied. However I forgot to turn off the auto-update and it updated itself from Android 2.3.3 to Android 2.3.5. As one of the very bad results tha light of the hardware keys are off. Is some very special cases it is not off (e.g. in extremely dark conditions) but usually it turns to off mode. I want to have it as at Android 2.3.3: always on when the dispplay is on (this is normal), otherways it is impossible to see the and use the buttons.
Could anyone help from me?! Many thank for the help!

As an alternative solution is to downgrade to Android 2.3.3 I would be also happy to go into this direction but without loosing the warranty. But I am not a deep expert, so could someone suggest me a simple .apk that manages this process?!

I hope you will have a solution, thank you!!!

My phone has sometimes the lights on sometimes off when I trun on the screen. Until now I do not understand the applied rule. But it has to be alwasy on! (At Android 2.3.3 is was fully OK).

It could be also the solution having an application that can be used to full cusomize the lighting conditions (than I will set-up the original rule: "Light on when the screen is on, otherwise off"). But I did not found such appication.

Look for two small dots above the screen area at the top of the phone. This in the black background just to the right of the HTC logo. Covering the rightmost dot (light sensor) will force the lights on. Use your finger to test. I used a very small strip of black electrical tape to force the lights on. Partially covering of the sensor will keep the lights off only in bright areas. Fully covering the sensors will keep the lights on all the time. The fix is hardly noticeable. Maybe a dab of fingernail polish would work? The real fix would be a firmware update.
