Alright so i noticed i find my self scouring the CM 9 thread everyday for hints of updates and release info lol. So i determined that with the amount of time i spend on this forum reading everything, that i could of probably already learned linux/android code. I know i need Eclipse and linux as well as java packages of some sort. sooo....

My machine runs 2.5ghz AMD Athlon X2 Processor and 8gbs of 800mhz DDR2, so is that able to compile/decompile android code? and if so i need a directional push on what to get first and how to actually assemble a work environment on my comp. Sorry to be such a noob but i figured its time to be part of the solution and not wait for it. thanks in advance.

*** If its better i also have a Intel Core 2 Duo that i can make a work environment in.

Attempting the same thing. Having issues with getting eclipse set up. I have no idea how to do a clean uninstall of of it either. Most of the books I have are Windows oriented.

agree...everything windows...i am a computer major and only once have we talked about linux..but nothing useful...trying to learn everything also..very useful post :D

Do you want to help build ics?

I want to help with whatever someone is generous enough to let a noob deal with. lol. I need to get the environment up and running first and then decompile android or get somones code or something. I am extremely computer literate when it comes to windows and i am some what ok on Mac coding. I pick up stuff really quick so it shouldnt be long before i am stable at this its just getting started thats getting to me.

Alright, well my first recommendation would be to install a Linux debian. Its up to you what you choose. When I get my alienware in a few days I'm gonna be putting Ubuntu on it. That's my preference though because I have messed with it before. For installation, you may need to partition some of your hard drive for Linux. If your laptop has two seperate gpu's like mine will, you may wanna do some more research on what's compatible and go from there. There is also a program for windows to help Linux installation run smoother that you will see while you are looking around the distro list.

i still have to do the CM9 repo on linux llol to lazy Gonna do it now since i have been of the PS3 For a bit

Well i have a spare 250gb SATA that im going to designate to Linux/Ubuntu and i have a 1gb HD Powercolor 4870 Graphics Card. I know that i can run the OS just fine but i wasnt sure if Eclipse or whatever runs the emulated environment of android would be ok on my machine. I know it aint the best but it could be worse.

Oh, that should work fine so long as you aren't trying to run a high demanding app. At that point, the variables are uncontrolled.

Ok sweet. So now what are the exact programs i need. I know i need Eclipse, Java and the ADB Interface with all the current builds downloaded. So boot linux, open eclipse, and... o__0

lol.

Wait are you making an app or rom? Eclipse is for building applications.

But for Eclipse you need. the SDK and packages, and Java, ADT plugin. Its quite simple to set up. I had it set up like a year ago and built an app to aabout 80% completion but then gave up because I dont know Java and learning it off the internet is kinda hard Ahaha

I try to see if I can find you the youtube videos I was following when doing it. They were super helpful

Yeah I also do not know how to set up github stuff or whatever. I need to find a tutorial somewhere. ive been looking but i cant really find one thats helpful and clear.

Heck yes i cant wait to check that out and start fiddling with source code. I got so excited last night i decided to transfer my computer inards to a bigger better case for increased air flow and put in a bigger watt power supply and the dang power supply doesnt work. Now my comp is in pieces on my dining room table lol. I think i need to finish that first.
