Has Anyone Activated a Google I/O Phone With Their Current Sprint #

Just out of curiousty, why arent people going to take advantage of the 30 days free and the free hotspot?

I dont think SPrint will cancel or brick any of the phones, but i can definetly see them holding off until the 20th before they switch those ESN's to personal accounts.

I plan on using the crap out of the phone and the hotspot. And then on the 20th i will just switch it over to my line.

1) I don't want a different phone number on my EVO while still having to drag my Hero around.

2) I've had Wireless Tether on my Hero for ages, and I rarely use it.

i would like to know why people want to get rid of th free service we get with this...so big deal you lug around another phone for a month, we all know sprint is too cheap and thye wont give us the hotspot access free for a month. i would rather just take advantage of the free service we got youll never get it again. Also the pamphelt specifically states to call sprint AFTER june 19th so the people who are getting the "run around" its because you didn't follow directions. the people who actually got the number switched got lucky, personally I'm going to jew this plan until its done :P

with that said who is going to google i/o next year :P

I highly, highly doubt sprint is in any postion to be canceling peoples services that did get their evo activated on their personal line already.

Sprint would have to be the stupidest company in the world if they thought giving away 5000 evo's, not expecting any of them to be sold. What did they expect, people that aren't already on Sprint or don't want to be on Sprint were just going to cancel their service with their provider and jump on board because the phone was free? Hardly.

The phones belong to Google and are assigned to an Account setup for these phones.. The EVO plans are not yet available to the public..

It may not happen, but I wanted to give people a heads up in case the rules and terms get enforced and they are stuck with a phone they can not use..

You do realize it was Sprint's mistake for activating them on personal lines, right? No one hacked into their systems and activated their phones against Sprint's will. Can you imagine the shit-storm that would commence if Sprint went around canceling contracts of the phones that they gave out and activated?

I just bought one of these phones off of ebay. Should I have waited and just got the one on the release date? With all the commotion about not being able to activate the phone on my current line of service, it then got me a little worried. However, I do plan to use the free trial service before I activate it on my current line of service.

So do people have to wait till June 4 to activate the phone on their current line or do they have to wait till June 30 when the trial period ends?

Ok i just activated mine on my current sprint line. I did have to ask for a supervisor and it took about 30 mins from beginning to end. i asked the supervisor if they would cancel any ones line for doing this and he said thats not possible. they are probably not wanting to do it cause either they dont know how and dont wanna have to take the time to find out or they dont wanna take the time to do it.

the phone DID belong to google until they handed them out to the attendees at the convention. almost all the people at the convention were normally people that paid to get in. So they handed them out to the general public that paid a couple hundreds to get in. it would be stupid and company suicide for sprint to activate a phone on somoenes account and then turn around and say hey sorry but i have to cancel your phone and account now since you asked for the phone to be put on your account and we did it.

Thanks for the update! Were you able to keep the discount?

What discount are you suppose to get when you activate these phones?

if you activate the google i/o phone by opening a new account they give you a discount. think its 10-20 bucks a month. but it doesnt work if your already a sprint customer and it doesnt work if you are getting the phone at launch. jsut on the google i/o phones

Some people on xda have gotten the discount with their existing plan. You aren't eligible if you have any other discounts, though.

Did you have to call the Sprint Customer Service or the number that people said was provied with the Evo?

Well I'm not currently getting a discount so I hope I get one when i setup my phone.

Do you know who you spoke with so that I can ask for the same person. Please

gotta be a little forceful, not extremly rude but get your point across. the i word 9 times out of 10 will help you get your way with sprint.
