Has anyone else noticed...

Has anyone else noticed that either FROYO or the OPTIMUS V has been "watered down"?

For instance: there is no automatic setting for screen brightness, no way to enter airplane mode except: APPS>SETTINGS>WIRELESS>AIRPLANE MODE. etc etc?

Is this a Froyo issue or an Optimus issue?

Not to mention the stellar 4 hour battery life, automatic "dropouts" of 3g service coupled with the near U.S. Post Office speed of 3g in a "good" area...lol, your thoughts?

I really think the Optimus was designed for casual users...most customers wont notice less than stellar speeds and don't care about rooting and overclocking. I mainly bought it cause i like gadgets but can't afford $60 plus from Verizon! The Optimus V is just fine for me!

You can enter airplane mode also by long-pressing the power button & selecting "Airplane Mode"
You can also place the Power widget on your home screen to control other settings such as screen brightness.

If you want a powerhouse phone with all the bells and whistles you're going to have to poney up for a powerhouse contract complete with all the fees and surcharges.

If you want a phone that'll do what you need and more for a service price that can't be beat, then you'll have to deal with some minor inconveniences in user experience.

...Indeed, and well said. I do LIKE my phone.

The post was more of a question, as I have never seen a 'DROID' that didn't have the auto setting so I got curious if it was a Froyo/LG/VM thing.

As with ALL Android devices you simply cannot beat the interchangeability of data, apps, cloud connectivity etc.

I can't wait until SOMEBODY ports Android to a netbook/desktop environment. Once this occurs (at least for me) it's going to be bye bye Microsoft/Windows :)

I don't think this phone has a light sensor so it's not going to autodim. Data speeds in my area are 50 - 200kB/s which is fast enough for me. I mostly steam music in my car. If you want to steam video in HD, consider a different provider (HSPA+ or LTE).

Quick Settings gives you access to Airplane Mode and the Brightness control if desired. The phone doesn't have a light sensor, as mentioned earlier.

Battery life can be extended in most settings with apps as discussed at length on this and other forums. It's a Smartphone and uses more battery, especially if you are in an area with weak Sprint 3G coverage.

Users have reported 3G speeds up to 2.0Mbps depending on their area and strength of signal. If you don't have satisfactory 3G speeds where you need them, find another carrier that does.

There is already a power control widget built in that you can use to easily select the screen brightness. There is not a light sensor so the phone is not going adjust to lighting conditions on its own, and I don't think the proximity sensor can be used in that manner, unless there is an app out there that can tweak it.

The first couple charges, i thought i was back on my samsung vibrant again! but now i see it lasts much longer ^_^

If I had to guess, w/o extensive use, It definitely can get me through a whole Friday (9am - 3am) ^^
